Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

I would rather clean the stoneware insert from the crock pot.  I don't like to clean a stainless pot like the instapot.  But another consideration is the weight of the stoneware.

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

I bought our ip when it took 12 hours to cook dry beans in the slow cooker vs 30 minutes in the instant pot, it depends what u like.  I love our instant pot, rice is the best!

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

I purchased the non stick insert and glass lid for the instant pot

Use it when I slow cook.  Easy clean up

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

I replaced my old pressure cooker with a new one from CE a few years back and I have used it twice.  I'm finding that the results from my $20.00 crock pot, also from QVC, are much more appealing, both in appearance and taste.  I bought that from Bob Worden, that's how old it is.

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

I purchased a 3 qt. instant pot about a year ago...It is perfect for me, and gets used at least once a week.  I never had a pressure cooker in the past.

I use chicken or beef stock/broth for the liquid, and find my food is infused with great flavor.

I hardly ever get the crockpot out anymore...last time was at Christmas to make a big pot of meatballs for a family gathering.

I have a tiny kitchen, and also appreciate the smaller footprint of the instant pot.

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

@qvcaddition  We cook all the time, and we always have. We are both great cooks and have a lot of kitchen equipment, and have been married more than 40 years.

We haven't used a slow cooker in years and we still have two.  We use the Instant Pots more than anything else now--almost every day.

The main benefits are great food, quick food, true one pot convenience--brown the food, cook in the food, steam in the food, and serve in the inner pot sometimes.  The inside is stainless steel and it is a breeze to clean up. It can go in the dishwasher, be soaked in the sink etc.

It is light weight and not heavy like a crock.  The food doesn't get as water logged and it is true one pot food.

There are a zillion recipes too!  For one person?  Get a three quart to try one.  Make soup, chili, and beans in one pot.  Saute meat for chili, for a roast, for a chicken dish all in one pot.

Cook with a little water (1/2 cup for the 3 qt., 1 cup for a 6 qt.) or a lot of water.

I have had in my long life numeroud slow cookers,  a Presto and a Fissler stove top pressure cooker; a ******or and a Cuisinart electric electric pressure cooker; and now a 6 qt and a 3 qt. Instant Pot.

The Instant Pots are the ONLY ones from above we use almost every day for something.  Right now it is a chicken for lunch.  We use it constantly for beans, chilis, soups, boiled eggs (they really do peel great!), beans, corn, roasts, making yogurt, pork chops with sauce or gravy, or broth from leftovers.

There are literally scads of recipes and instructional videos; you do not have to be afraid of it.  It's not going to blow up--the lid is the ONLY pressure cooker I've found that goes on easily and securely without jiggling.

BUT if you don't want to use it and are afraid of it or it is too modern for your tastes, aren't concerned about non-stick, hesitate to try something new, don't get one.  If you aren't comfortable with something new, don't get one.

It just is too revolutionary for some to be comfortable with. We bought my aunt a crock pot in the 70's and it never came out of the box because she was unable to cook in a different say.  So if you are like that that's great but don't waste money on new stuff!  Woman Very Happy

I believe some people love food processors and mixers and crock pots and Instant Pots and such, and some do not want anything at all that plugs in or has parts.  That's just sort of what I see here sometimes and it's all good!

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

@Sooner

No, I never have been afraid to try anything new.  I just don't want to waste money if it doesn't suit my cooking habits.  With that said, was just getting opinions.  When I think about a friend telling me she seared her meats or browns them before she puts in crockpot, it made me think, the Insta pot does this and has a slow cooker so i proberly will get one.

Retired and living alone, i don't need the fast instant cooking like i would if i were working or had a family, but it's there if i need it. I will get the three qt. when it's time and a good buy.  Maybe the Q's Christmas in July will come out with one.  They just had one for 69.00, but I missed out on it.  it was raised to 79.00 on waitlist when i saw it.  David had said, once it is sold out, it is not coming back, yet a waitlist, so i declined.  Amazon was out of 3qts.

No hurry.  I'm not afraid to try anything.  I may be old, but not timid.

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

@qvcaddition LOL!!!  Some people just don't want new stuff and no issue there!  So, no, I wasn't really thinking of you as timid!  And I know a lot of people wonder and will read this, so it was a general comment.

Just because you don't need it fast (we are retired) doesn't mean we haven't become used to getting it fast!  Like when you can start something, cook it and have it ready by the time you clean up the mess!  LOL!!!  Now that's a benefit!

Whatever you get, have fun with it!  And I hope you have a lot of great meals from it!   Woman Very Happy

Re: Slow cooker or insta pot?

If I wanted one thing, I'd definitely pick the Instant Pot--or one of the other brands of multicookers. It takes the place of a slow cooker and does that well, plus it does lots of other things, making it a versatile kitchen tool. When I got mine over 10 years ago, I got rid of my stovetop pressure cooker,  my slow cooker, my rice cooker, my soup kettle, and a few other things I no longer remember. I use this pot often, and it would be one of the last things I give up. Get a size that works for your household, keep it handy, and you'll probably never feel it's in the way.
