Single Person Household - KitchenAid Stand Mixer

OK - looking for input.  I live in a single "human" household so I think that purchasing the stand mixer might be over the top.  Are there any other single human household people here that have a stand mixer and if so are you glad that you have one?  Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Single Person Household - KitchenAid Stand Mixer

@BeingKindIsEasy Depends how you personally live the single person household.  I know lots of women who live alone but still love to bake, like to entertain at home, make meals to share, etc.

When I first bought my own stand mixer I used it for the above --  and then, the baking sort of went away when my diet became more restricted and now with Covid, entertaining has disappeared.  Sad to say, I fear for me much of the kinds of entertaining I did will really not return.  And even if it does, so many of my 80+ aged friends by choice or necessity eat very restricted diets.

So now, I'm much more likely to use my hand mixer or imulsifier than my mixer which I no longer give daily counterspace.

Nothing is over the top if it fits your life as you want to live it.

@BeingKindIsEasy   I live alone and I have one.  Do you bake a lot?  If so then you will love it.

@BeingKindIsEasy  There is a smaller version of the typical-sized Kitchen Aid tilt-head stand mixer that Q sells. I saw an IG video yesterday of Chris Pryme using one in her kitchen.

Re: Single Person Household - KitchenAid Stand Mixer

I bought a Litchi a similar cheaper model from Amazon ,about $89. The paddle was defective as wouldn't stay attached. and they sent me a new one. quickly. I live alone and could not justify a K Aid. I rarely use it, only if I bake for others or church. It takes up too much room on the counter as it is.  These days food isn't served so haven't used it at for months. I certainly could do without it but needed a new mixer that could mix doughs.

Relate to the single household. I love to cook, but not for myself. Cooking for one is hard. I admired my Aunt who really did this well after her husband died. I no longer have a separate freezer. Alot of breads go to waste or get moldy.

Why do you think that is over the top?  Single household or multiperson household both deserve convienence and ease.  If you want a stand mixer get it.

Do you want it?  Would you use it?  Can you afford it?  Do you have room for it?

if you check off those boxes, go ahead and buy it!

I also am a single person, and used mine only twice.  And it took up a big chunk of countertop in my tiny kitchen.  I gave mine to my daughter, and haven't missed it.

^^^^ Absolutely!

I still cook and bake. Breads and baked goods go in the freezer.  If you are watching your diet, what better way to control your intake than by baking it yourself ? Then you control ingredients.

You can certainly make 1/2 batch of most baked goods including cookie dough. Roll the dough, double wrap to freeze and bake 6 or 12 as you wish instead of running to the store.

Re: Single Person Household - KitchenAid Stand Mixer

@BeingKindIsEasy  I live in a single household and have had one for probably 20+ years.  Although I don't use it all the time, I do use it and its a dream when trying to mix items.  I even got some of the attachments, the shredder and the pasta maker.

Go for it, you'll love it and it's a good investment since it will probably last the rest of your life and then get passed to someone else who will love it too.
