I caved and bought the recent TSV of silicone spurtles.  I liked the silicone instead of the wooden because I felt better just chucking them in the dishwasher to get sanitized.  While I like the spurtles, they are so spotted coming out of the dishwasher they look dirty!  Then I have to rub them with a dish towel (pretty vigorously) to get the spots off.  Has anyone else had this spotting issue?  We've checked and topped off the rinse agent.  Could it be because I got the black ones?

If you had happened to read the reviews of the silicone spurtles you might have noticed that same complaint entered often, especially from those who bought the black set. Everyone loved the practical use of these tools and were happy they bought them, but many reviews noted the spots, fading and “graying” of spurtles after dishwasher cycles. Yes, even the colors beside black were affected. Some reviewers also suggested fixes to get the good looks back, so take a look and see their ideas.

I think it might be best to hand wash these utensils and they will soon  be restored to their unblemished color and continue to be attractive as well as useful.  It’ll be OK.

I have the TSV spurtles in black as well. After just once in the dishwasher mine got those ugly grey/white spots as well.  I wash them by hand now, but those spots do not come out. The only thing that makes them 98% disappear is to rub them down (after each washing) with vegetable or olive oil (other edible oils are probably fine as well).  But that’s something I do not plan on doing after every use.  Their description says “dishwasher safe” but if they’re left in that condition, they’re not.

I still like to use them, they are extremely functional, just ugly looking.  They stay hidden in my drawer, not my lovely utensil holder on the counter

I'm sorry this happened to you, but glad that I read your post.  I have the red spurtles and have not noticed this happening (as yet).  I'm going to stop putting mine in the dishwasher and start washing by hand.

Gizmo, after typing my post, I did go back and read the reviews and found you are right, I'm not the only one with the spotting problem. I like the functionality, so I guess I'll keep them.  I'll either have to rub them vigorously after dishwashing, or hand wash. Maybe after a few uses and hand washes, I'll put them in the dishwasher to sanitize.  Mine DO sit in the utensil holder on my counter, so the spots would not be a good look!

@Sammijo10  I did get the multicolor set which I washed in the dish washer.  Only the black one got these spots.  All the others were just fine.  So now I just wash that one by hand.

It's definitely only the black color so I don't know what's up with that.

I have this set but I dont have a dishwasher so I wash by hand and no spots at all.  One thing I did notice is the slotted one tends to have stuff stuck in the slots you need to scrub out!! I do like the silicone spurtles alot though.

I think it is the nature of the silicone. Every silicone item I have gets these spots in the dishwasher to an extent and it’s especially noticeable in black. We have pretty hard water and I think it’s the result of mineral deposits in the water. I use Lemi Shine in the dishwasher to cut down on spotting in general and it works pretty well. If I get any spotting, I spray mine after the dishwasher cycle with a vinegar/water solution and wipe them down.  It seems to help.

I always hand wash my silicone utensils.  It takes 2 seconds and no problems.  They also last longer.  My DIL puts everything in the dishwasher and is always having to replace.  FYI on food sticking in the slots of spoons.  I grab a toothpick to loosen and things fall out.  No scrubbing.
