@4kitties - Now that, I agree with!  I'm lucky to live where we have locally sourced, fresh seafood.  I wouldn't be buying anything shipped from Asia.

It is true that unscrupulous sellers would oversoak the seafood with STPP to increase the water content (thus the weight and the price).  Best to know your source, as with everything.

@Venezia

I wish I lived near one of our coasts and could get a variety of fresh seafood.  I only purchase shrimp that is from the gulf.  I do not buy any seafood shipped in from Asia.

Had to go look it up too.

Apparently the USA does not import any.

So here you go, 100% made in the USA additive 😛

NO Asian seafood here.  There are sources readily available from the USA.  Even canned tuna!

I noticed Great American Seafood Imports shrimp skewers on Gourmet Holiday.  New vendor?  When I looked at the nutritional info it says shrimp and SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE  and salt.
Then I looked at other shrimp product vendors on QVC.  Same with shrimp from Anderson's Seafood.  And Egg Harbor.

So would/do you eat shrimp that has SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE?

@EatWell @I was looking through the shrimp offerings at Schwanns website and it's the same for them. I wen on to look at other sites and saw more of the same. If the shrimp has been frozen, the company will use this stuff. I'm sick of all the chemicals in our food.

@4kitties This is what I was thinking.  I saw a documentary about these shrimp farms.  The water is so dirty that they put antibiotics in the water so the shrimp will grow.  It was a while ago so I don't remember if it was all shrimp farms or only those in Asia.  I do remember they specifically mentioned Asia.

@EatWell

I am sure you could order much better quality shrimp.  Wild caught from the Gulf.
