Sealing Granite Countertops

Has anyone sealed their granite countertops themselves? Is it easy, hard, not worth the effort, better getting a pro to do it? I've had mine for 4 years and have never had them sealed, except when they were installed. How often is it recommended and any other information would be appreciated.
