Scalloped or au gratin, Aunt Bertie's are still the best.

This is interesting. I'll admit to making Betty Crocker boxed casserole potatoes occasionally and not knowing the difference between their Au Gratin, Scalloped, and Cheesy Scalloped vareties. I guess it's a matter of degree - cheesiness.

Love both, even Betty Crocker in a box satisfy me occassionally.

I like them both!

Any home made au gratin, recipe from any one?

It seems that au gratin describes a dish with a browned crust on the top - like buttered breadcrumbs or grated cheese. Au gratin is a French term, but it doesn't mean cheese - that would be frommage.
Growing up, my mother only made scalloped potatoes. My first MIL always made au gratin and that was the first time I had ever tasted them with a topping!

My simple answer to the question in the thread title is: YES, PLEASE!
Honestly, I don't think I've ever met a potato dish I didn't like. Tonight's dinner includes the mashed version...

@SoonerNeither. Too much fat for our diet.

I am not a huge potato fan or a fan of cheese and potatoes either.
My mom made scalloped potatoes by slicing and flouring potatos, putting them in a dish with a little butter then pouring milk over and baking and I did love that!
Thanks for all the answers! Potatoes are a complicated thing aren't they?

After reading what the difference is, I have been making scalloped au gratin spuds forever-----
