Happy New Year everyone, what's cooking for dinner today.

The game starts at 5 here today, and we're having roast beast.  LOL  That's what we call it now here.

Anyone doing that too, or what's on your menu?

My husband reminded me yesterday of the old wives tale his mom always used to say of eating cabbage on New Year's Day so you will have money in the new year. So with her in mind, I am fixing a pork tenderloin in the crockpot with cabbage and potatoes. It's not the fanciest of meals, but it's tasty.

Making ham and split pea soup from the Christmas Eve spiral ham bone I stashed in the freezer.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable New Years Day!

I'm doing a pork loin roast with collards, black eyed peas and maybe something else.  Leftovers will be turned into a version of Hoppin' John tomorrow.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

Southern through and through here: pulled pork roast, collards and cornbread, rice and peas, mac & cheese; brownies for dessert which we never have room for so it's always something light and easy. However you celebrate, or don't celebrate, enjoy this brand new day of this brand new year.

We've been away for the weekend and are on our way home now. I'm not sure what we're eating. It might just be yogurt and granola or bacon and eggs.

Sour cream noodle bake, steamed cabbage, cornbread, and lucky black-eyed peas!

Re: Roast for New Years Day

I fixed our old family tradition of Black eyed peas for good luck but instead of ham hocks I added smoked turkey.  Happy New Year everyone !
