I bought a cheap rice cooker and have a question for those more experienced than I.

As far as mixing rice to water proporations, the measurements on the rice bag and the rice cooker manual are different.

Which one do I use, on the rice bag or the manual?  I don't want to mess up a batch of white Jasmine rice.

TIA

Follow the one with the cooker. I have a small Zoji that tells me way different than the bag. Rice is perfect every time.

sunshine--you're welcome.  Just prep the smallest amount first off to see if you like the recipe.  I always cook that way if I'm trying a new recipe--just make 1/2 recipe to see if it works. Can't tell you how many times , a whole  recipe doesn't turn out and I throw it away--such a waste of time an $$.

If you got a little cup with your cooker, it is 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water.  Perfect everytime

@meem120Do you soak and rinse your rice first before using this ratio?

The reason I ask is that I soak mine and then rinse.  I use 1 cup of rice to 1 cup of water and it turns out great.  I'm guessing my rice has already absorbed some water so it needs less when cooking?

This is for Jasmine rice.

@Sunshine Kate, you may not know this, and I don't mean to talk down if you do, but different prices have different proportions of water to rice-I always have to look it up!

My problem? If I was the only one using it, the cup that came with it would still be around. I always have to measure the "old" way!

i rinse my rice multiple times, then soak in salt water for at least two hours, then rinse my rice well again. i mostly use basmati rice.

i dont measure the rice or the water. i put the rice in the cooker and then add enough water so that the water sits above the rice to the point of the first joint of my index finger. i also add some butter to the cooker. it comes out nice and fluffy.

Yep!  The tried and true method for measuring.
