Reuben Sandwich -- my variations

There was a recipe posted here (or recipe swap?) for a reuben casserole which got me craving a reuben sandwich but I didn't have any corned beef. I intended to buy some as I was going to the supermarket, but I forgot to get some. Had all the other ingredients so I decided to try it with ham (which I did have). Amazingly enough, it turned out very well and I didn't miss the corned beef at all. My sandwich was delicious! I did pre-cook the ham on a nonstick skillet for a few minutes on each side. Ham contains a lot of water and the pre-cooking evaporated the water.

Mr. Petunia was tempted by my sandwich but he doesn't eat red meat, especially pork, so I made one for him with turkey. He loved it! I pre-cooked the turkey the same way as the ham, sizzling it for a few minutes on a nonstick pan. Turned out great. Moral of the story: don't be afraid to try something different. Smile
