I love reading the forums, and I have noticed in many reviews, people mentioning their items looking like returns. Now I know if you purchase an As Is item, you will be getting a return. But why are people disappointed that their items are most likely returns if they didn't buy one on purpose? Surely QVC is not passing off returns as new and unused? I have not gotten anything that looked like a return. Is it prevalent or not?

I wouldn't be surprised getting a return as a new item.  It hasn't happened to me in all my years shopping here.

@LisaMofSLC

I've shopped with QVC since they were CVN and a few times I received an item that was obviously a return, yet I paid full price, so I wouldn't consider that "prevalent".

If the item wasn't damaged, it didn't bother me.

I remember receiving one thing over the years of ordering that I knew was a return (and I did not order it “as is”).  The top reeked of perfume.  But most of the things I’ve ordered appear new.

@LisaMofSLCIs it prevalent?  I'd say no.  Is it possible?  I'd say yes.

QVC ships millions of items and we see a relatively small number of complaints.  All retail research shows that buyers who have problems are far more likely to write letters, make calls, post on social media, tell their friends, whatever than buyers who are satisfied.  How often do posters come and say as you did that you'd never knowingly received a used item?  Super tiny fraction of posters/reviewers.

To me that means we're far less likely to get a return than we are to get new merchandise.  Doesn't mean we have to be happy if we get an obvious return though.  I know lots of returns in brick and mortar go right back onto shelves and racks, but there at least we can see and smell what we're buying.  I'm sure I've purchased returns often in my shopping life, but not any a careful employee wouldn't have thought looked new.

Stores sell returns as new ALL the time.  Always have. . .

I've received many returns.  The label on them is different from first-run merchandise.  I'm grateful to have gotten them because I would have otherwise missed out on a nice item because they sold out of my size or preferred color.  Got one yesterday.  I've never received one that wasn't in pristine condition.

@LisaMofSLC  As Is and returned merchandise are two different things.  There is a definition of As Is on each of the descriptions of that merchandise.   It is often things that have been "on air" samples and may have been worn by models.  Returns are repackaged items that have been returned by customers.  They are usually undiscernable from "first run" items.

@Kachina624 according to Q's website "as-is" items can also be customer returns. Here is wording from item A300126:

See A288516. This product may be a customer return, vendor sample, or on-air display and is not in its originally manufactured condition. It may not be new. In some instances, these items are repackaged by QVC.

Unfortunately I believe I have received items I believe were returns. I purchase a lot of Josie Maran products, and it's strange that some jars of say, body butter, is full and has a SEAL on the jar, and another is only about half full and NO seal. A bit suspicious to me..
