Re: Regular Ziploc vs Freezer Ziploc Bags

The freezer bags are much heavier weight and keep things fresher more than the regular bags; I mistakenly bought the regular sandwich bags and they didn' keep anything fresh very long, so I tossed them. I buy my freezer bags at Costco when they are on sale.I use them for storing both in and out of the freezer.

You can double-bag using the regular zip-locs and get the same freezer protection if you don't have any of the freezer bags on hand.

@SilleeMee Thanks, didn't think about that.

Food  saver, machine is really good also at protecting food.

@goldensrbest I do have a Foodsaver, but not everything works well with it for me.  Sometimes I just want to toss something in a bag and stick in the freezer.  Today I did that with Croissants.

I use the bags for food and non food.  I like the freezer with the ziplock closure because sometimes I don't always close the squeeze type when I thought I did (the sides didn't engage properly).  If the food itself doesn't touch the bag because it's wrapped, I keep the used bags in the fridge and reuse them.  I have plenty of room in my fridge for empty food bags!  If I used the bags to carry clothes or shoes or make'up, I also reuse them until they r dirty.

@NYCLatinaMe , I use them when I pack for a trip for some of my clothing.  I use the 2 gallon ones, put the clothing in, close it but leave a corner open, then I roll up to push most of the air out and then finish zipping it.  After that I flatten it back out.  I know they sell stroage bags that work like that, and I actually have a few.  But if you ever puncture one, they're ruined.  Plus, the Ziplocs fit in my luggage better.  When you're packing winter clothes, it does make a difference and a neater suitcase.

I use both--but  have been trying hard to eliminate  using any at all--so awful for the environment----am looking into the silicone type bags and have a vacuum sealer too. I don't find that the thicker plastic  bags do much to keep out any freezer burn----

When we prepare food bags that accompany our pooch to the kennel, regular sandwich baggies are fine.  For our everyday use,  I prefer the freezer version as they are stronger. For actual freezer storage, I use the vacuum sealer.
