Re: Refrigerator help, please

@feline groovy

Carrots-bottom shelf of refrigerator towards the back, once opened twist tie the bag

Tomatoes-do not put into refrigerator, Roma tomatoes usually have the most flavor and are the meatiest this time of year.

Avocados-do not refrigerate. If you use only half then you will need to leave the pit in and refrigerate in airtight container. Use other half as soon as possible.

Sugar snap peas-Refrigerate. Do not wash until right before eating. If you don't eat them all at once than put in air tight container or ziploc bag with a paper towel. Crisper drawer or bottom shelf of refrigerator.

Green beans- Same as sugar snap peas.

Corn-leave the corn husk on. You can either boil the corn with the husk on or peel off husk before boiling. At this time of year corn needs to be refrigerated in a bag, sealed with a damp paper towel to retain moisture in the corn.

Red/Orange peppers-Refrigerate whole peppers in airtight container or ziploc back with dry paper towel. Crisper drawer or bottom shelf.

Apples and clementines-Refrigerate in crisper drawer

Pears-If not ripe then leave on counter to ripen, than refrigerate in crisper drawer on top of other fruit so pears don't become bruised. The best pears are Comice, Bosc or   Bartletts.

Peaches/Plums/Nectarines-Ripen in a bowl on counter away from appliances. Once ripened place in crisper drawer on top of other fruits. (Since these are considered soft fruits)

Kiwi fruit-refrigerate until ready to use. Wash right before eating.

Mangoes/Pomegranates-Store on counter. Do not recommend refrigerating.

Berries-Do not wash until ready to use. Refrigerate in airtight container with paper towel. Strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are porous fruits and absorb water quickly. These three types of berries should be cleaned using a damp paper towel, and not be washed under a direct stream of water.

Blueberries may be washed quickly under water.

Other suggestions

Pineapple-To choose a ripe pineapple, pull lightly on a leaf, and if the leaf snaps and comes off easily than pineapple is ripe. Otherwise, with a pineapple that isn't ripe, store on counter.

Broccoli/Cauliflower-Refrigerate on bottom shelf. Once the florets are separated or cut than store in airtight container or ziploc bag with a paper towel.

Cara Cara oranges-refrigerate in crisper drawer. These oranges are juicy, sweet and more nutritious than any other citrus.

Moscato grapes or Scarlotto grapes-Refrigerate with paper towel. I only buy these on sale. This grape is available for a limited time. Crisp, sweet and juicy.

Green onions- refrigerate in ziploc bag with paper towel.

Sorry, I took so long to get back with you.
