Ree Drummond needs Lock and Lock

[ Edited ]

I have never seen anyone use as many plastic bags as she does. She had to have used at least a dozen in today's show alone. I'm a little fussy about this.  It's not unusual to see heavy duty Ziploc bags hanging over my kitchen faucet to dry, as I reuse them. It seems so wasteful and environmentally disrespectful to throw them away after one use.

Has anyone else noticed this about her?  Maybe she and Lock and Lock need to get together and start a Pioneer Woman line of plastic containers.

Plastic bags take up much less space in the fridge or freezer.  I prefer them also.  Ree does a lot of prepping and cooking and needs the space.

I don't watch her, but it does seem like she would be called out for the waste and the environmental impact using so many disposable bags creates.

I just can't see the expense of them myself. I keep some on hand for sending something out of the house where I might not get my container back, but in reality, a small box of zip lock bags will last several years here.

She also uses a heck of a lot of those aluminum disposable pans instead of reusable ones. And she never uses the lids they sell for those disposable pans and instead uses foil.

I've also noted her excessive use of plastic baggies, and I wondered if the company was one of her sponsors.  I like the idea of a project between Lock n Lock and Pioneer Woman.  I wish L & L would make sets of larger storage containers.  Most of the sets I've seen lately contain several small containers that I would probably never use.

Ree has a family of six living on a large ranch. Tiny containers are probably not the best choice for her needs.

Re: Ree Drummond needs Lock and Lock

I have watched her show for quite sometime. She appears to cook A LOT; not just for her family of 6, but also for the workers on their ranch at times. It is not uncommon for her to be making breakfast/lunch for them and then bringing an entire meal to them to be eaten out of the back of her SUV. So much easier and less apt to be breaking casseroles if it is served out of aluminum trays. Toss after use.  Plus, makes more sense to marinate meat in ziplock bags instead of plastic containers. Most recipes for marinades contain oil, and that can be difficult to completely wash out of the plastic bags. One less thing that needs to be washed. After getting up at the crack of dawn at times, I am sure the last thing that she wants to do is wash unnecessary dishes. I also reuse plastic ziplock bags if I can, but see no reason to criticize Ree if she chooses not to. To each his/her own.

I am guessing she has a sponsor relationship with the company.  If large quantity vessels is what she needs, why not go to a kitchen supply store and pick up a few buffet servers.  Large enough for the family and ranch hands and reusable!

I doubt that Ree does this but I re-cycle all my zip lock bags.  Just put a little Dawn and hot water in them, shake and rinse.  I use them at least 3X.  I don't like having those L&L container and lids to store.

Hopefully she washes/rinses and reuses...I do, especially the gallon bags...I try to be environmentally respectful and not wasteful, these bags are also expensive.
