I have never tried Rao. I saw some the other day at Meijer's but the price scared me down to the Ragu section. They offer a variety now called Simply with 100% olive oil no sugar added. I got chunky marinara and DH & I both liked it.

I always keep a jar handy, just in case, it's the best.  I usually make my own.  When Rao's is on sale I stock up.  It's worth the price IMO.  But i always buy it on sale.

As an italian who always makes my own homemade sauce Rao's is pretty good but "Victoria's" is even better! Much more like homemade and less salty!  Try it!

Yes, like I said earlier, some of the big brands have improved their recipes in recent years.  All because of the consumer preference for more healthful ready-made foods--or at least foods that can claim to be more healthful.

Remember when there was no such thing as no-sodium-added tomato sauces on the grocery shelf?

Always made my own sauce, but recently I read very good reviews for VINCENT'S TOMATO SAUCES that come in mild, medium and hot.  Most of the time I like the mild and can use it right from the jar.  Don't have to doctor it up.  The hot was way too hot for me.  Vincent's by the way is an Italian restaurant popular here in NY and LI and the sauce is what they use in their restaurants.  I've tried other brands such as Rao's and Michael's of Brooklyn (very expensive).  I didn't care for either one.

My brother always buys us bottles of Vincent's Tomato Sauces when he comes to visit. He stocks up when he goes there to eat. And yes, the hot was too hot for me. It overpowered the rest of the meal.

He also bring's Michael's of Brooklyn too.

But Rao's is a favorite of "The Low Carb" watchers. It is one of the few brands of pasta sauce that they will buy.

I'm a fan of Victoria sauces, which are on sale often enough at one of my supermarkets to make them a regular choice. I just bought my first jar of Rao, the "sensitive" one because that seems to be the most popular. Haven't used it yet, so I'm no help to the OP's question. Ingredients of Sensitive, from Rao's website: ITALIAN WHOLE PEELED TOMATOES (PEELED TOMATOES, TOMATO PUREE, SALT, BASIL LEAF), OLIVE OIL, CARROTS, SALT, CELERY, BASIL, OREGANO.

I do want to put in a plug for a different kind of sauce, not smooth, more chunky. It's Bertolli's Rustic Cut with Sweet Peppers and Portobello Mushrooms. It's taken me a year to find it locally. They have other versions in the Rustic line, but that's the one I know and think is really good. Ingredients from Bertolli's website: Tomatoes in Juice (Diced Tomatoes, Tomato Juice, Calcium Chloride, Citric Acid), Tomato Puree (Tomato Paste, Water), Mushrooms, Red Bell Pepper, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Onions, Yellow Bell Pepper, Carrots, Garlic, Spices, Celery, Salt.

We love Rao's! Tried it because David suggested it. We just stocked up at Sam's. They had it on clearance for $4.71 for 2 jars! Happy bargain hunters here. Smiley Happy

I have about 6 jars of their arrabiata sauce in my pantry because I like it so much.   Makes pasta day easy.  I add nothing to it but some frozen meatballs.
