Quick question, can't remember for sure, pineapple, don't use in which flavor jello?

I'm using sugar free jello more lately, but it seems in the back of my mind, pineapple wasn't to be used in one flavor. Acidic, or some reason I can't recall. I like bananas in the jello, and want to do fruit cocktail too. Just can't recall. Anyone know, or is it all ok?

You shouldn't use fresh or frozen pineapple in jello, any flavor, because it won't set up. However, canned pineapple is perfectly okay.

I agree with the first comment. It also states this on the Jello Box. Besides fresh or frozen pineapple, it also lists kiwi, gingerroot, papaya, figs and guava - as items NOT to add to Jello.

Ok, great thanks ladies. Wow echo, I didn't know all that. Guess, I'd better put the glasses on and read the box. Thanks again.

Pass the ReddiWhip. Even though I make real whip cream for desserts. Jello needs ReddiWhip and DelMonte Fruit Cocktail. Great memories. There is always room for Jello.

Boy, did you ever bring back memories. My Grandma always made jell-o with some type of fruit in it. Usually it was either bananas or fruit cocktail. She also to make what she called broken glass jell-o. She would made three different colors of jell-o in three different rectangular or square pans. After the jell-o was set, she would cut it into squares, put it in a bowl and add whipped cream. Oh, my gosh, what memories. Thanks for the post. A lot of happy memories of Grandma and Grandpa.

fresh papaya and fresh pineapple contain Papain and Bromelain, enzymes that will "eat" and dissolve the proteins in gelatin which make them gel...They should never be used- use canned instead..

This is why papain and bromelain are used in meat tenderizers...

I remember a jello salad people would bring to pot luck meals, with lime jello, crushed pineapple and small curd cottage cheese. Anyone else remember this one?

Yes, I remember that salad. Tastes better than it looks.

My mom was an ARTIST in jello. She used to make a sherry-orange ring that was delicious. I like those fluffyb jello desserts like strawberry. They are easy to eat, too easy and very refreshing as a dessert.

I like to blend Greek Yogurt or sour cream (usually yogurt) on the bottom layer of a jello mold and then put berries in clear jello on top. But it's old fashioned!
