Question, is whipping cream the same as heavy cream?

I had some whipping cream tonight and used it when the receipe called for heavy cream. It was the first time I made this dish so I can't be certain whether it tasted the way it was supposed to. If the whipping cream is the same as the heavy cream, I will never make this again. If it's not, then I will try again.
