Question about gingerbread cookies....

I baked a boatload of little gingerbread men to share with coworkers.  I don't want to go the traditional route and pipe them with royal icing.

I was thinking of "painting" the backs with melted white chocolate.  I'm not particularly fond of gingerbread, so it's hard for me to decide if that sounds like a good combination.  How about dark chocolate?

Total honesty, please.

I'm at a loss.... sigh.....

I'm thinking I'll dip part of each cookie into the chocolate.

For my taste , Gingerbread  is strong with the molasses taste so I'd go the  vanilla royal icing route  instead of the chocolate which I think would not be the best

Re: Question about gingerbread cookies....

I think a vanilla icing covering the top of the cookie is the way to go. No decorating. Just simple white icing.

I'm not a fan of white chocolate so painting it onto the backs would ruin the cookie for me. I suggest putting some cookies on a plate with 2 small containers (like the ketchup/mustard cups with lids) -  one with royal icing and one with dark chocolate so they can choose which (if either) they like and can dip them to suit their fancy. (this is assuming you're doing individual servings for each person)

Other option is to do some half dipped in icing and some with chocolate and put some of each (including some plain) on a plate for each person.

@house_cat - If it isn't too much trouble, it would be lovely to dip some cookies in white chocolate and some in milk or dark chocolate. I did this for a large gathering and it was a big hit—people were excited to try both, even if they weren't white chocolate fans. (And all of the cookies were delicious.) Good luck!  Smiley Happy

ETA: I should note that the gingerbread cookies I made were squares, not people shapes, but I think the approach should still work well.

Re: Question about gingerbread cookies....

I would dip them half way into chocolate. Some half way into white. I think they’d both be delicious with gingerbread men.

That would be my choice also.

Thanks for the excellent feedback.  In the end, I decided to use white chocolate.  I thought of making some with dark chocolate but got lazy, lol.  I did a taste test and have to say they are pretty darn yummy!
