Re: Question about Publix Stores

I've been traveling down to the Orlando area frequently for 20 years now. If anything they have opened more stores and not closed any. Publix is excellent. The stores are always clean and well stocked. Great store brand items, excellent selections, best fresh produce and meats in the area. I wish they would open up here in MA. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Re: Question about Publix Stores

I've lived and shopped in many FL's Publix for over 40 years and NEVER have I seen one close. In fact, I've seen plenty being renovated from small stores to much larger ones in strip malls. My daughters live in NC and they just got their first Publix near Durham. We're getting an Aldi's near us and already have a Walmart food store, Winn Dixie, BJs discount,Trader Joe's down the road and 2 Publix stores.Publix is the only place I can do my total shopping . We're due to get a new smaller Publix not even a 1/2 mile from my house. As for prices, I think they're fair. And, if you ever have a complaint, they are addressed immediately.

Re: Question about Publix Stores

I live in a very small town just south of Sarasota, Fl and we have 2 Publix markets. Both are busy all the time. IMO - they do not have the best prices but they do have BOGOs every week so I shop at Winn Dixie and just go to Publix for the BOGOs or when they have a deal on gas gift cards.

Re: Question about Publix Stores

I LOVE Publix! I wish we had their stores up north.

I have two near me that I use...a small one on the island where my beach place is, and then a larger one about 5 miles away (off the island) that I shop at when I'm looking for a bit larger selection of items. The store on the island is more expensive, but very convenient. I typically shop only for myself, so price isn't a big deal to me.

I use many of their store brand products for staples. Their deli has a great selection of store made salads and sides. The multigrain bread from the instore bakery is delicious. The only area where I think they could do better is fresh produce, particularly in the island store, but there are other places that I can get produce.

Re: Question about Publix Stores

Publix is a great place to shop. The quality of the food is wonderful, and customer service is excellent. It is consistently ranked one of the best places to work and shop. Plus, it is employee-owned.

While I am sure this person thinks he knows what he is talking about, I would ask for examples. Can he provide consistent examples of this, or was it one store? Does he have an agenda? Does he just want to sound intelligent?

Seriously, what sort of fiscal sense would it make to do this? The store would be going bankrupt if they did this on a regular basis. Quite frankly, it sounds more like Winn Dixie than Publix.

Re: Question about Publix Stores

The stores that closed in this area (Lee County) were smaller stores that gave way to larger and probably more energy efficient (etc.) stores. There were two near me, within around 5 miles, and two more that did the same thing further away to the north and south from me. Might be a "regional" thing. This area is growing and needs may change. Also the new stores they build are not stand alone stores. They build other units attached and lease them out to other smaller businesses like nail salons, pizza places, etc. That does make fiscal sense.

Re: Question about Publix Stores

Quite a few Publix locations close by - all of them exceptional. We go there and Aldi every single week and are quite happy with everything that's available. And yes, we love BOGOs!!

Re: Question about Publix Stores

LOVE Publix! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} They entered the TN area a few years ago, and are planning on adding more stores in the near future. I mostly shop their sales (my basics come from Aldi), and also stock up on BOGO items. I also love that they carry a number of items that I haven't been able to find anywhere else since I moved out of NY years ago, like BaTempte pickles. Customer service is outstanding as well.

Re: Question about Publix Stores

He is the owner of my nail salon and he was belligerent towards me. I told him how nice it would be to have one here, so that it competes with Harris Teeter. He told me that they are owned by employees and they close their stores right after they open them. All of your posts make so much sense to me. I asked him if he knew what stores I was talking about because I had only heard good things about Publix. He said I didn't know what I was talking about. Guess I won't be going there anymore. Nail salons are a dime a dozen here.
