Prime Rib - Rastelli vs. Kansas City?

We advance ordered a Rastelli 6 pound prime rib during CIJ. Now I see Kansas City is offering a 5.5-6 pound prime rib for the same price.

We had a KC prime roast last year and really liked it. We've never ordered anything from Rastelli before. Any opinions or comparisons? There is still time to cancel the Rastelli order.

I can't specifically attest to the prime rib, @PA Mom-mom, but I can tell you we've had some other meat products from Rastelli; Faroe Island Salmon, Private Stock Black Angus Steakburgers, Wagyu Burgers, and all have been fresh and flavorful.  I believe they're a trustworthy brand.  I currently have an A/D plan for the private stock burgers.  A shipment was supposed to go out Monday, but it went into "backordered" status.  I ended up cancelling that shipment and ordered a box of  Rastelli Wagyu burgers from Costco.

@PA Mom-mom keep a close eye on the delivery from Rastelli. I ordered it 2 years ago and am still awaiting delivery. I called in several times and was told it was on the way. . . ended up searching for my NYE entree 4 days before it was needed. I now order from KC or Omaha Steaks.

@We rescue cats  Oh, WOW! It's supposed to ship next week, and I will certainly keep on top of it. Thanks for the warning!

I got one from KC steaks years ago---was horrible--it had a huge strip of chewy gristle that ran thru the center of it--was a 3 lb I think, so there was no way to even salvage it for dinner---got my $$ back as well as another roast----never tried Rastellis and will not--I can get a prime roast around where I live--and frankly, that is not going to happen anyway--not really fan and do not want or need to spend the outrageous prices either.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all of your information. Smiley Happy We're leaning toward staying with the Rastelli's order.

@PA Mom-mom  I think you'll be very happy with Rastelli's.  My family loves it.

Re: Prime Rib - Rastelli vs. Kansas City?

The first prime rib I ever cooked was a 5-6 lb. Kansas City thru QVC, and paid $60+.  I cooked it for Easter and it fed 4 adults for that one meal.  The roast turned out great, we liked it, but never again at that price.  Since then, I have purchased several prime rib roasts thru my IGA; more quality Angus beef for my money that has been cut to size for me.  Meat and jewelry are things I will not buy from QVC.

Honestly, I'd check local supplies, butchers and grocery stores.  Take a look at what they have and the prices and find one you like and buy it.  You can wrap it well, freeze it and it will be fine.
