DH loves hot wings, but they are a big no-no with his GERD. Emeril demonstrated a wing preparation during his pressure cooker spot. I don't think it's in the cookbook. Anyhow-take a bag of frozen chicken wings, (I think they are about 3-4 lbs). Two cups of your favorite BBQ sauce. Put them in PC-12 minutes on the high setting. Then, I crisp them in the oven on a foil lined cookie sheet. DH says it's not the same as fried hot wings, but it's a nice substitution that doesn't bother his stomach, (if I catch him sneaking the hot sauce-it bothers him!).

Thanks! I'm gonna try this. How long do you crisp them in the oven?

About 10-15 minutes at 350.

Sounds good to me!

But doesn't the bbq sauce aggravate his GERD? It's pretty highly acidic. I have esophagus issues too (I've unfortunately gone beyond GERD at this point) so I totally understand how he feels. It can be terribly painful to eat, plus the acid problems.

Good point. DH has been pro-active with his GERD. His GERD is aggravated by a hiatal hernia. Losing weight has decreased the pressure around his stomach. We've also elevated the head of the bed 6 inches. He never eats within 2 hours of bedtime. He is on protonix for now until symptoms subside.

Chickenbutt- Believe me when I say this man ate the spiciest, hottest food ever!! I would have to go outside when he made one of his 'kicked up' dishes. If I was anywhere near his cooking, I would start to choke and my eyes would water-like pepper gas!

He grew his own ghost chili peppers and dried them to put on his food. No more of that!! Any BBQ sauce that he gets now, is mild enough for the grand kids! Tomato products were never much of an issue with him. In fact, caffeine doesn't bother him, either. But those d*m ghost peppers really did a number on him! Let that be a lesson, if the raccoons won't even go into the garbage to eat it-people should stay away, too!

Oh my! He was eating fire, before, so I can see how a little bbq sauce wouldn't phase him. Yeah, I bet the peppers contributed heavily to the condition. Smiley Sad I bet he misses them, too. I really never did go for really hot stuff.

What is weird, with mine anyway, is that it seems like more acidic stuff, in moderation, really doesn't bother me. The things that cause me the worst problems are meat and breads. Sometimes, when trying to eat either of those, I end up unable to swallow them and have to 'refund'. It causes a pain that's nearly indescribible.

DH was one of these people that ate Tums and Maalox on a daily basis. Then, he had a hernia repair in November and had a paralytic ileus, (his guts wouldn't work and nothing moved). He was in horrendous pain and was on IV fluids for about 4 days. Every time he ate anything, (jello, broth) he would vomit. While they were trying to figure all this out, they discovered the GERD/hiatal hernia. BTW: One of the usual hospital treatments for an ileus is to insert an NG tube and put it to suction. I'm a nurse and I explained all this. He pleaded with his doctor not to do it. The doctor set a deadline and said if he wasn't at least passing gas by a certain time-down would go the NG tube. He just made the deadline. That was the most welcome f*rt, ever!

Thanks these sound good. I love honey bbq wings but not the hot & spicy stuff. DH also eats hot spicy foods & peppers not me. I don't eat anything 5-6 hrs before bed. I won't eat after 7. I have had acid reflux several times so this has worked for me. I also started taking Andrew Lessman's Ultimate Friendly Flora probiotic.

They are good strategies for dealing with reflux. DH thought he could eat like he did when he was young, (and stupid). One of the things on his 'Bucket List' was to be on the Wall of Flame at the suicidal hot wing place. I was drinking dairy kefir for probiotics. DH is lactose intolerant, plus he hated the taste, so we got some water kefir. He never like that, either. I suggested a probiotic supplement but he says he's not taking any more pills. The biggest help for his GERD was losing about 20 pounds, (IMO). He carries his weight like an pregnant woman, so that had to be pressure on his abdomen.

You can just do them in the oven like that start I finish at 400 degrees and skip messing up the pressure cooker. Just turn them once and baste again. Should take about 45 mins. Maybe a little longer if they are frozen but not much.
