Thank you so much, everybody, for your responses. lilypadfrog, I'm not much of a sewer. Every time I sit down at a sewing machine, the thread breaks, the needle breaks, or the bobbin falls out. gacat123, I liked the cooking buddy and was tempted, but wanted something that could easily hang by my range. Maybe I'll order one of those in the future.

I did order the W-S pot holders, the two made in the USA. I try to buy American made products whenever I can. I find that I almost always check to see where something is made and that sometimes determines if I purchase it or not.

Again, thank you.

Your thread prompted me to buy another pair. One of the two we have right now was accidentally set on fire, so I think it's time for new ones. I bought the pine green striped ones that one of three "holiday" (it's just a good shade of green for our kitchen) colors on sale. And it's free shipping.

I prefer handmade pot holders, because they are thicker and more durable. I have a cousin who sews and sells her wares thru a crafters guild. Every few years she'll send me a package with pot holders and her newest craft item.

I make my own. They are double-thick & I use 100% cotton. It's name is the best potholder ever, and it is.

I know that WS makes nice ones. For me, though, I tend to not like potholders. I am a big fan of good kitchen towels (WS for those as well) and these do the trick for me. IME, potholders get dirty faster and and harder to clean. I have lots of kitchen towels and just use two when removing something from the oven (or double one up on each side depending on the heat).

glmama, I've never had a problem with my WS potholders in terms of keeping them clean. I just throw in the washer occasionally, as I would towels.

I prefer silicone ones and I believe I did buy them at W&S.

I love the ones made by BuiltNY (available lots of places - Target, etc.). You can't feel any heat at all through them and they grip really well. They don't have my color listed on the website any longer, but here is an example:
