Plop a fried egg on it, why don't ya?

Does it seem like the t.v. chefs are plopping fried eggs on top of the most unusual dishes lately?

I've never had a fried egg on a salad or a burger, but they seem to do it all the time.

Does anyone do this?

I've seen it in restaurants too.  For example, Cheese Cake Factory has an appetizer of asparagus with an egg on top.  I didn't think it looked appetizing, but my coworker ordered it whenever we were traveling.

I haven't had one on a burger but they are delicious in a salad . . . the warmth of the fried egg and yolk against the cold salad . . . piece of crusty bread . . . delicious!

I put an over easy egg on sauteed spinach with a mustard cream sauce.  Delicious!

Red Robin puts a fried egg on a hamburger. DH loves it. Sometimes he does it on at home burgers.   It's not my style.

well, after reading the replies ahead of mine.... I think I wll try it on a salad...

It does seem to be the trend lately.

I do NOT do it because I think eggs are gross.  But more power to ya if it is what you like, of course.  Smiley Happy

I've seen numerous recipes where I recall thinking 'that would be a nice recipe if you just left the egg off of it'.  Smiley Happy

We have a few places in town known for their Fried Egg Sandwiches and they are delicious. One is a breakfast BLT with a fried egg and the other is an open-faced fried egg sandwich that's enormous.

I don't think it's a new thing - they've been on menus here for years.

We used to have a great restaurant chain called " Hamburger Hamlet".. There may still be one or two left..but 50 years ago, my favorite burger there (and as a kid, I always had birthday dinner there!) was called the "brunch burger", and was topped with a fried egg..

So this is really nothing new.....but it IS delicious! InFrance, every Bistro has some kind of salad topped with a poached or coddled egg...the egg makes a sort of sauce..
