I am 63 years old and don't know how to fry foods. LOL. Pitiful I know. I do not have a deep fryer, and I have an electric burner. I made my first Falafels yesterday, (yes it was my first frying experience
outside of a fry daddy years ago) and I had a heck of a time. Does anyone have a technique for frying in oil over an electric burner? I did fill a pan a few inches deep with oil, I put in a thermometer and got the heat to 350. It would then shoot up to 450 and lower to 250. It is keeping the heat constant I can't do. I am afraid of the oil catching on fire. Some of the falafels exploded, some cooked, and some overcooked. I tried 4 times. The ones I salvaged were very good, and the recipe was excellent. I made the falafel patties about the size of a big walnut, and flattened slightly before frying.
How do you eyeball the heat of oil without a thermometer?
How do you keep a constant heat?
Tips on frying.
Anyone who has made Falafels, is there another way to fry them?
Any tips for frying would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shoekitty
