@TheMemphisVette in post #8 you say you make smoothies or ice cream with leftover fruit and then in #50 you say you buy no milk and only melons. So how are you making ice cream or smoothies without either of those two items?

What are the ingredients in a simple melon smoothie? In a blender, combine cantaloupe, honeydew, lime juice and sweetner. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serveAdd 2 cups of melon, 2 cups of melon water, 2 cups of crushed ice and 2 tablespoons of honey to a blender. Pour into glasses and serve.
That sounds more like an Italian Ice than ice cream. Sorbet at best.

@sandy53 wrote:I really don't keep track of grocery prices with one exception. I buy 2 liter bottles of Diet Coke. I used to be able to get it on sale for $1.00 a bottle. Now the best sale I can get is $2.00 a bottle. The regular price at Walmart is now $2.74. My best friend gave up drinking pop because of the cost. I'm not willing to do that, but I will watch for sales and stock up.
I don't usually buy large bottles of Diet Coke, but when I do, I get them for $1.25 at Dollar Tree.
I think @sandy53 is buying 2-liter bottles, @Tinkrbl44.
I agree. It's right there in her post.

what folks eat factors into the challenge of food costs. meat, fish, chicken, eggs, veggies and a few condiments is all i routinely buy. spendy for sure.
i do not buy processed foods.
no bread

no crackers

no milk
no juices
no chips
no beer

many are on good sales weekly. some frequently have coupons. also some can be found a dollar stores.
I'm curious ... do you do this to economize, or do you have dietary restrictions that also influence what you buy?
It seems like you probably have to cook a lot of things from scratch, which is very time-consuming.
Personally, no one would call me extravagant, but I also make a few food purchases based on the convenience factor, even though I'm retired.
