@JeanLouiseFinch. I vaguely remember something negative but couldn't recall the specifics.

She still has four Paula Deen's Family Kitchen restuarants in Tennesee, Branson and Myrtle Beach.

her recipes are so good, love the hummingbird cake and tons of other stuff.  It's just it is so fattening, and artery clogging. I imagine people have just changed eating styles and food choices.  Her recipes and style of cooking are like once a year type eating for us.  lol. But, dang it's good.i don't eat meat, and all the cheeses, creams, and rich foods anymore.  But I can dream

I had never heard of Paula until DD did a report on her when she was in high school. I learned Paula had severe agoraphobia. She would make sandwiches and her young boys would take them out.

I started paying attention to her. Although I didn't see many of her shows, I made a lot of her recipes. One of our favorites is Bobby's Shrimp and Grits.

I always hoped to go to her restaurant in Savannah. Maybe I'll get to one of the other ones!

Watched her cooking show for a short time. Was not for me.  She disgusted me (and some of her guests from the look on their faces) when she started licking their faces. Gross.  Her food was also not for me. Fattening and unhealthy.  Then when she showed who she was with the racial slurs, that was it for me watching Deen.  Don't care for her.

Yes, that was a cringe worthy

move on her part. Deen thought it was funny. She would start from the guests chin and lick them up to the forhead.  Did it frequently.  Disgusting.

I used to enjoy watching Paula Deen cook in her shows Paula's Home Cooking (2005) and Paula's Best Dishes (2008).  She came across to me as a simple, basic, southern cook in those shows.  By the time she did the Positively Paula shows (2017), she was very loud and obnoxious, and I totally lost interest in her.

My oldest daughter and my nephew vacationed in Savannah about 7 years ago, ate at The Lady and Sons restaurant, and met Paula who spent about 1/2 an hour chatting with them as they waited on a table.  My daughter enjoyed fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and corn muffins; she said the food and the sweet tea were good, but no better than what she ate here at home.

I discovered her back in the early 2000's on The Food Network.  I never stopped following her, but was saddened by the remarks and the flack she got.  At least she did not go into hiding but continued on even when so many tried to cancel her.

@Rockycoast  Seem to remember it was called Paulas Party & she would sit on male audience members & make suggestive comments - cringy.
