Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

I use them.  And microfiber and cotton cloths.  The article was interesting - I can understand the progression as times changed.

DH will clean the bathrooms much more willingly if he's allowed a roll to do it.

I just made a special trip to a little-shopped store, to buy my favorite kind (Sparkle prints - has to be prints).  I conserve many things, make my own compost, and recycle all that I can, but I confess to a real weakness for the PT.🛒

Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

I get down to only two rolls in the house and immediately get afraid of running out.  Not giving them up, ever.  I compromise by not throwing away just from drying my hands and such.  Just drape it over something in the kitchen and reuse to dry my hands again.  Not to mention I sweep my kitchen nightly then run a damp paper towel on my hands and knees right after the sweep.  Keeps floor clean between my big mopping days.  Long Live The Paper Towel!

Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

I only keep the paper towels around for my husband.  We never had paper towels growing up. Always just dish rags and stuff.

I just hate the waste from  paper towel-a-phobes.

Hubby on the other hand uses them like he owns stock.  I should own stock in the kleenex company though.  I usually have at least 6 open boxes around the house.

Nope.

I literally, not figuratively, have the same roll in my cabinet

which I purchased close to 15yrs ago.  I never use.

I just use sponges/hand towels....use, wash, repeat.

Sterilize sponges daily in the microwave, replace when needed.

Launder hand towels, replace when thread-barren.

@sidsmom

I was sanitizing sponges in the microwave (no dishwasher here but me!) and I heard that now they think that isn't getting them sanitary.

Have you read/heard anything about that? Kind of bummed, because we grew up never having sponges, as my mom thought they were dirty. But when the Campenelli sponges came here on Q, we tried them, and for the first time in my life, I knew the joy of a sponge! LOL

I'm still putting them in the microwave kind of water logged, and for like 3 minutes. We haven't died of anything yet, but now I do wonder if it is really sanitizing the interior like it should.

I throw them in the dishwasher, as well.

But again....it all goes back with what I’m clean up in the first place.

No oil, no grease, no animal flesh.

There is still a lot of bacteria on fresh produce though.

But I'm guessing if you and I and the probably millions of others using the microwave to santize haven't been sick from bacteria in sponges, it must be working good enough.

I wash my produce...so I’m just drying w/ the towel/sponge.

I’m so thankful I was raised with a sensible, farm-girl mindset of

Use it Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do, or Do Without.”

Mom/Dad would be proud!

Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

There are a few items that the corporations are very secure regardless of the economy.  1.  Bounty Paper Towels

2.  Dawn Dish Detergent

3.  Dove Soap

4.   Tooth Paste (type based on each person's needs)

5.   Toilet paper

6.   Clothes washing products

7.   Hair washing products

The list goes on but these jobs should be very secure as regardless of how little $$ most people have at periods in their lives, they will always need certain items.

BTW~~ JMHO but paper towels should be safer then hand towels as the germs are thrown out after each use.  (My excuse for using them anyway)

Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

I am trying to cut back on paper towel usage.  I try to use micro fiber clothes to clean off the stove and counter tops in the kitchen.

Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

I am guilty, use many paper towels throughout the day between a messy husband, a huge dog and a 2 year old grandson when he is here which is quite often. What bugs me though is that my husband will grab paper towels to blow his nose when there is a tissue box sitting on the counter two feet away from him. Same with napkins. Bounty Select a Size is my favorite brand. Just a waste of money on the cheaper ones.

Re: Paper towels - yes or no?

I do use Bounty Select-A-Size paper towels but we use them sparingly.  I do have the Campanelli Micro sponges and after I'm done using one for the dishes, I recycle it for cleaning the counters and sink (with cleanser).  I do wash them in the dishwasher to keep them fresh. Living in Southern California in drought conditions for the last 5 years it would waste too much water (a precious commodity) to do extra laundry to wash a lot of cleaning cloths.

ha-ha-ha-ha. my hubby does the same thing.  He says that a kleenex could never do the job for him with the nose blowing.  It must be a paper towel. Have they thought about maybe doubling the kleenex??? Paper towel is just too rough for the nose. Smiley Happy)
