Re: Organic Egg Test We Did Last Week

@Sooner, thanks for the comparison test. I like that Eggland's Best will occasionally have coupons in the flyers. That's an added incentive to buy and really makes them no more expensive than others.

Re: Organic Egg Test We Did Last Week

I feel really blessed and lucky that my kids have 8 chickens that lay eggs daily.  So when I visit each month, I get to take a few dozen home with me.  I rarely have to fill in with eggs from the supermarket.  I had to in the winter a few times, because when the days are shorter and the weather is colder, they stop laying.  When I do buy eggs, I go for cage free ones.  I do eat an egg almost every day.  And I also use my instant pot to cook them.

As an aside, I was keeping these freshly laid eggs in a basket on my counter, as they do not have to be refrigerated unless you wash them.  My cat is fascinated with these when I bring them home, and I have caught her on several occasions trying to scoop the eggs out of the basket.  She won't leave them alone- so now I wash them and put them in the refrigerator to avoid tempting her.  Don't want to wake up to smashed eggs on the floor in the morning!  Cats will be cats....

I buy my eggs at Aldi, Organic and $2.89 a dozen. I do Keto and eat a ton of eggs. I "hard-boil" my eggs in the air fryer. They come out perfect and peeling are is so easy.

Re: Organic Egg Test We Did Last Week

@Sooner  Thanks for the interesting report. Two things:

  • If you are dying eggs, does that little EB stamp on the egg come off when you steam (or boil) them?
  • I have had hard boiled brown eggs one or two times, and I thought the peeled eggs smelled a bit fishy. I looked it up, and some people said that brown eggs do get a slightly funky smell or flavor when they are hard cooked. Not sure is this is legit.

My DD brings us her chickies' free range eggs when she visits, but I usually don't hard boil them. They are all colors, brown, white, green and blue. Steaming is my favorite way to make hard cooked eggs.

@fthunt LOL!!!  As far as I know eggs are eggs.  I have head that the eggs are the color of the chicken's ear--but have not tested it myself!

@PA Mom-mom I don't think the stamp does come off after steaming.  I think it may blurr a little.  Brown or white eggs taste the same to me, and are supposed to be identical except for shell color, and I have not noticed a fishy smell.

My grandmother's chickens laid brown eggs or white depending on what breed of chicken it was, but they all tasted the same.

@Sooner  and @fthunt  One of the breeds of chickens they have is called Easter Eggers. You never know what color you will find!
