This is a picture of the hutch in my dining area, as it at this moment. Since it was part of my actual dining room in my last house, and is now part of my kitchen, I was thinking of switching it up and using the shelves for the dishes and Pyrex bowls that I use daily.
I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear, but I have limited cabinet space in the kitchen itself and could use these shelves to be more utilitarian than decorative.
If you have any idea what I'm trying to say, I'd value your opinions.

@house_cat I'm all about keeping life simple these days! Absolutely use the extra space for dishes, bowls, etc, especially since you're limited in cabinet storage.
You can still use the very top of the hutch to put something decorative, if you'd like, and seasonally you could also put a pine bough garland with a decorative bow on the curvature of the top of the hutch to make it more festive.

@house_cat I would do that in a heartbeat! We have a long black 3 tiered sofa-type table in our eating area (along with a iron book rack and a huge copper pot full of dough rollers) and it is so useful.
We have a plate rack with 3 sizes of plates on top, trays with cups we use in the shelves, platters, pretty all-white serving bowls, decorative tea tins, and even a small 3-tier wooden server we keep sunglasses on to grab when we run out the door!
It is all neat and looks nice, and is so useful! Go for it! You can always change things around.

I think it is a great idea to use it for daily use, much like open shelving which is so popular now. You can also combine daily with some decorative items also as it appears to be roomy enough for both.

i like it for more of a seasonal decorative use exclusively, but if you really need the space for everyday essentials then go for it.

Most definitely use the hutch for practical items. Thoughtful arrangement and placement of these dishes and Pyrex can make it more decorative than you think.

You could always just try out using in a utilitarian manner and see how you like it and how it functions for you. Like is it too far from dishwasher to be convenient for everyday dishes, etc? Then play with how you stack your dishes, so it looks pleasing to your eye, etc.
I find it fun to play around with where/how I place things in the house. For no money you can change the vibe of a room.
Have fun.

I'm with you and the others who say "just go for it, doesn't cost anything", but these days things seem like they take a lot more effort than they used to, lol.

Not a fan of open shelving. Do not care to see "stuff." I think it makes for a messy look. Do not mind glass doors on cabinets to show off the nice stuff.

@Janey2 Does make a good point.
But if it looks orderly, it should be fine. I have a small kitchen and limited everything. LOL. So it definitely looks lived in and used.... HAHA
