We moved into our "new" '50's ranch over 4 years ago, and I LOVED the DATED, UNFASHIONABLE, AWKWARD CABINETRY.
The counter surfaces are WHITE FORMICA, they are the only fly in the ointment for me, but try though I might, they refuse to die!
The Formica is inlaid in the counter, and the trim on the counter edges is lovely, and in perfect shape.
Having lived with the Formica THIS LONG, I'm trying to think of some way to rehab it without ripping the counters out. SOOOOO-
Has anyone successfully used TEMPERED GLASS KITCHEN COUNTERS? I'd like to know if some glass specialist could do a permanent water proof glass covers for my counters, tinted, frosted, clear?
Any suggestions?

Have you looked into counter top paint? There are a few brands out there.
You can paint your counter to look like stone or just change the color. Some have added texture.
I have a friend who painted hers and it looks beautiful. It seems to be durable, but she is careful not to be too rough with it.
You can google for the types and brands available and read the reviews.
I have never heard of glass covers for countertops, but I know you can get stainless steel ones made.

Overall, I'd say we're pretty "rough". That's why I was thinking of glass. My obsolete but still very functional appliances are almond color ceramic, so not too open to stainless steel....

Google tells me that there are companies that do this - either glass tops over existing counters, or a new counter made of glass. Google "glass countertops + your city" and you may find some venders. Good luck!

I have a similar countertop in the kitchenette in the family room area. My first thought was that stone covering that is sealed (clear) on top. We have vendors in our area. It started with garage floors and it has expanded to all surfaces.
If you like the idea of tempered glass then I would check with the glass dealers or mirror replacement companies in your area. I found that they do more services than just the repair or product that is advertised. I used the mirror replacement company to make heaverier glass bevel tops for our coffe and side tables. The tops that came with them were so thin I knew they woulnd't last.
Hope one of these work for you.

Most of us have been there with tile, countertops or wallpaper that we were not ready to wholesale replace.
Halfway solutions are just that. Bet they won't really please.
Just wait for the first appliance to go and then get out the credit card.
Threaten them every morning, like an old car, "First to die, you all go!"

I saw an ad on TV last night for a tempered glass piece that was designed to roll an office chair on. Unfortunately I can't remember the name. It was scratch free. So this glass exists somewhere, all you have to do is find who does custome pieces. Good luck !
