Re: Opinions Please On Temp-tations Collapsible Baker's Rack

Thanks for the help. My cabinets are cherry but have more of a bronze base instead of red to the wood. I love them. I was hoping to find cherry or some darker wood (not black) to blend with the cabinets and the other unit. The other thought I thought about VPH glass etigee but then it would only hold the wicker baskets and not anything of weight. The style of my home is a more casual elegance with a hint of shabby chic. It's all pastels and light shades in most rooms. I have a lot of glass and some mirror accent furniture. Works really well with 2 GSD's. ha ha!!!

For your needs I had a thought---have you checked out Target?  I have found quite a few pieces for our den/computer room there and Office Max.

Hello all.  I am currently watching a repeat of today's ITKWD of item # K-43072 named in the title of this topic.

I think it looks great and would provide great additional storage space in or near your kitchen, especially if you live in an apartment or a home with a small kitchen without enough cabinet space.  Since I'm "vertically challenged" --okay, okay yes I'm short, and I have a bad back, storing stuff in cabinets over my head does not appeal to me.  Color selection and style is quite attractive.

However, one issue I have is with the weight capacity of each shelf which is thirty pounds. I think that it would be too easy to accidentally overload a shelf and your rack would all of a sudden really become collapsible, and not in a good way.

For instance, I would use it to store large appliances such as a Kitchen Aid stand mixer or maybe large pieces of heavy cookware like Le Creuset Dutch ovens.  These things can be very heavy on their own--the stand mixers run between 22 and 25 pounds alone. Plus I would also use it for easy access to to serving bowls, platters and trays.  Imagine your lovely pieces of Temp-tations or other breakable service wear hitting the floor if you run just a few pounds over capacity.

I think for the price which is $200.00, I would want to have at least a fifty pound capacity on each shelf.

But I would really appreciate your opinions; good deal or pass, and why.  Thanks.

@ChazzyLady Probably a good thing you didn't order the Temp-tations Bakers Rack, 'cause I ordered SPICE and they sent me CRANBERRY.  As you know the rack weighs 50#. I am not happy.  Good decision on your part.  Who needs to now deal with having to return it?!?!?!?!?!?  UGH.

Yikes @Snowhite714 that's awful!  No, I didn't know it weighed fifty pounds, and it's not even on wheels.  I have a bad back and other mobility issues, so there would be no way that I would want to have to deal with something that heavy that I couldn't easily move from one place to another.  So sorry you have the headache of returning it and, hate to mention it, but will you get back your $32.00 and change for the original shipping and handling plus the return shipping costs since they got your order wrong?

Good luck.

Hi @Fressa.  Didn't forget about your search for a more decorative shelving.  I found two beautiful ones that may be what you are looking for; going to try and post images for you.

Here are two pieces that you may be interested in @Fressa:

These are more decorative and furniture-like which I believe you're looking for, not just basic shelving. They also both have the scroll details like the Temp-tations rack and will fit in corners.

The first one is Belham Living Newberry Corner Bakers Rack and costs $187.98.

The second one is Belham Living Classic Scroll Bakers Rack and costs $282.98.

I found both on the Hayneedle website.  Just Google it since we can't post outside vendor links here.

I'll continue to look out for other pieces you may be interested in.

UPDATE @ChazzyLady working with QVC to have the item picked up.  I will get a full refund and I've decided not to get a replacement, I just don't want to take any more chances.  And I was so looking forward to receiving the item.  But this situation has left a bad taste in my mouth.  Maybe it was not meant to be.  Take care and good luck in your search.  I'll probably be looking at some of the pieces mentioned in this thread.

Re: Opinions Please On Temp-tations Collapsible Baker's Rack

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me find my storage rack. I'm in love with the first one and am going to check the measurements.  I hope you find the one you are searching for as well. I will keep checking websites. Thanks again.

You are most welcome @Fressa!  When I saw it, even though I don't know you, it just seemed to scream @Fressa thanks to your very detailed description of the room where you want to place it and how it will be used. If you decide to get it, maybe you could post a picture of how it fits in with your decor. Also, check Groupon for Hayneedle coupons. Most of them seem to be for outdoor stuff but it doesn't hurt to check.

Take care.

Ha ha, BTW, I am now officially obsessed with that website!  There's one less expensive one I'm eyeballing for myself for $69.98. I would want to purchase two of them and have them in opposite corners on either side of a dining table. Not as pretty as the one you like, but I can afford to buy two and still be able to afford the Origami butcher block top one for the kitchen, and all three would still be cheaper than the one Temp-tations rack! Here it is:

Re: Opinions Please On Temp-tations Collapsible Baker's Rack

This is what I've been looking for!! Thanks so much for all of your time and effort. This will work into my budget much better than some of the other pretty ones that I've seen. I would love to have two matching sets but the adjoining wall to the dining room is a 4" stud wall.  I hope to get on that site tomorrow and get my shelf.

Your design plans sound very pretty. You'll have to post a picture when your are done with your room.  I'm not very savvy with posting pics, yet.

This is why I like these forums so much. You can find things that take you forever to locate in stores or on line. Most of the time you are looking in the same few places. Most posters are very helpful.

Again, I can't thank you enough for all of you help and thoughfulness!

Re: Opinions Please On Temp-tations Collapsible Baker's Rack

You are most welcome @Fressa.  So glad you like that one. It is more budget friendly, isn't it.

I am a few months away from moving so it will be awhile before I can post any pictures. Because I'm on a tight budget, I have to plan any major purchases in advance.

Happy shopping!
