OK-----ABOUT AMAZON

I have never ordered from amazon, but I am wondering, how do I get started with ordering, and saving on S&H. I order a lot of kitchen items, and food items, but am always leary of new sites for me!!!!!!!!! How does it work???? I used to use B&N for books, and had no problem. But just have to be leary.
