I've been contemplating buying this for a while but don't know if it's something that's repetitious of what I have or whether it would be something that I would use on a constant basis and leave on my countertop. I have a stove/oven/convection oven and a microwave; however since we have a very busy house (five of us including two kids), there's many times we don't have a lot of time or forget to take something out of the freezer. I guess that's why I'm debating whether to get it or not since it appears that it would meet that need of quick cooking, even when we've not defrosted something. I interested in hearing from those of you that have already purchased one and what your opinions are. Also, I'm concerned that there have been some reviews that say it's not so durable. What do you think?

Re: NuWave Oven Pros and Cons

I HAD one.....""Had"" = means have no longer. Do you have unlimited counter space? and... These miracle appliances may cook fast; but clean up can take twice as long.

I went back to the old method: thaw in microwave - bake in oven - swish (water) the baking dish and put in dishwasher. Done!

Also, a former owner. It takes up too much room when you're using it, and forget storing it. It didn't justify the trouble/space for me. If you are thinking about it because you forget to thaw meat-just do it in the microwave.

Re: NuWave Oven Pros and Cons

My sister loves hers, I am donating mine to a garage sale. I think they work better with frozen food as opposed to thawed.

Re: NuWave Oven Pros and Cons

Love mine ! I have modern kitchen, though, plenty of room. Husband won't eat boiled hot dogs or boiled chicken . I can put hotdogs in and done in 10 min. he'll eat them. Put in a thawed chicken and have baked chicken in 50-60 min. depending on how browned you want it. Can 'pause' it if you want to butter it, then, press 'start' to resume. Don't have to heat up the kitchen with a big oven or a toaster oven. Clean up just put the rack and dome in dishwasher. Perfect for hot temps like down here in Tx. We have huge electric bills and can't afford to turn on a/c all day long, so, this alleviates heat issues.

Baked potatoes I spray with Crisco spray, make some slits in it, and bake for an hr. (big potato) LOL Not all that heat in house for 1 potato. I'll send you the link for their online cooking club you can look at some recipes for free, then, if you buy one, you can look at the whole website, different catagories for FREE they just want the serial # off the unit and give them a junk email so you won't be bothered with nuwave 'deals', etc.

If I had kids, that would be the ticket, let 'em make their own food, experiment, read the brochure, they send you a DVD, also, WATCH IT. Most people don't take the time to get to know their machine , then, gripe. Don't be lazy, read and watch.

Thank you for your info. I've had mine since the TSV and haven't used it. It's sitting on my counter. I don't use my big oven very often, I don't mind using the cooktop, and use the microwave often. I bought specifically to roast a chicken weekly or chicken breasts. But then I think it's not a big deal to just put a chicken in the oven so why keep this? I can't decide what to do.

A lot of reviews do not feel it really cuts the time that much and a whole chicken doesn't take that long really. I like the frozen chicken aspect but not the chemicals leaching from paper or plastic that remains for awhile in the cavity until you can take it out.

I'm concerned about the chemicals- BPA, Pthalates in plastic. Which brings me to a most important point: I cannot find out what the plastic dome or base, or any plastic parts that touches or fumes which leach into the food are made out of?

I found one area that mentioned it's the Elite model "The dome is built to withstand temperatures up to 420 degrees Fahrenheit while remaining free of harmful chemicals such as BPA." The word "such" has me worried, is it truly BPA free? It doesn't mention Pthalate free, dioxins, all of which are in most plasticde material unless specifically stated. NuWave cannot give me a direct answer! Crazy.

Is this model made only for QVC? QVC can't tell me anything either, so I wonder if we'll ever find out what the plastics are made of?

Also, do you know if this is indeed a model that's sold at NuWave's website? Same model number?

I'll probably send it back even if it does magical cookking just because nt having an absolute material content knowledge written, verfifed, etc. If you know I'd love to know.

Thanks

Re: NuWave Oven Pros and Cons

Might find some information here where it says 'manual'

http://www.qvc.com/NuWave-Pro-8-in-1-Digital-Oven-with-7-pc.-Baking-Set-Search-Results.product.K396...

I wouldn't worry about the plastic aspects of it. What with all the stuff that's in the air, the water we drink, the food we eat, medicines, we take, the sun, household cleaning products, beauty products, that would be the least of my worries.

My model # is 20337

probably cost 20 bucks to send it back

Thanks, manual of no help. I do worry about Bpa and Pthalates, the less myself or my loved ones has in our bodies the better. Yes, it's true we get a lot of bad stuff in many things we do and do not know about, but if I can lessen the amounts in the things I do know about I will.

Either I find out what's in a product or I won't buy and look for other options in that category if there are options or else do without unless it's an absolute must as in a medicine, treatments necessary. I know there are other brands of this appliance which do not use plastic, so if I finally decide I do want to try this method and cannot find that this is not made from BPA and Pthalates then I'll give the others a try. I know many families with young children have bought this so I hope it does not contain Pthalates or BPA. Just wish the company would say, makes me really wonder why they won't?

thanks again.
