Ninja Smoker: your experience

I think there will be a learning curve for sure.

We tried a 3 1/2 lb brisket with dry rub. Cooked at 250 for 3 hours. It was overcooked and too smoky (for my taste)

Sausage cooked fast too. The casing was tough.

Hamburgers cooked with lid open. Cook fast.

Re: Ninja Smoker: your experience

I have had mine for about a year and love it.  Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve.  A lot of things cook much quicker than on a traditional smoker, ie Trager or Big Green Egg.  First thing I would suggest is throw away the pellets that came with it.  Any food grade pellet would be better (found at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.).  Also join one of the Facebook Groups and follow Cooking With CJ on YouTube.....he is fabulous!  Don't give up.....you will love it.  PS Most of the recipes in the instructional manual leave a lot to be desired.....brisket is great @ 180 degrees.

Re: Ninja Smoker: your experience

I find it does cook faster than times given.  I do like the smoker feature - I've made some really tasty crisp smoky chicken wings and salmon too.  I would recommend setting cook time below what's recommended.  Agree there's a learning curve but I'm very happy with the units - we bought two, one for home and one for our camper.

Re: Ninja Smoker: your experience

I just received my Ninja XL grill, smoker that was a TS on HSN.  I have the original and love the smoke feature.  I wanted the larger version.  We use charcoal flavor pellets and it gives a great flavor to burgers and steaks.  I like to smoke my filet mignon at 150 on the smoker setting for about 15 minutes.  Then I put it in a bag and sous vide.  After an hour I put it on the preheated grill and sear each side for 1 minute.  The steak tastes fantastic.

If you can use the same pellets we use in the Pit Boss Academy Sports has a better price on them.

Good Luck learning to use your new smoker.

DH makes brisket on the Pit Boss. He cooks it 2 hrs naked or with no foil, 2 hrs wrapped in foil in tinfoil pan, 2 hrs in ice chest. It's so yummy. We always buy the brisket flat.

DH is now learning how to cook on the Made-In Griddle.

Re: Ninja Smoker: your experience

I have the Ninja 7-in-1 grill/smoker that I bought last summer from HSN--and I haven't tried the smoker yet--I want to find a really good detailed cookbook for it--sounds like the time factor is the issue when using the smoker--maybe start testing an hour from the stated finish  time suggested. I use this thing 3-4 x a week. But good to know about others experiences.
