@AuntG.  Did you know thst there is an elaborate, extensive Ninja site on Facebook with hundreds of recipes and helpful hint?  Even if you don't use Facebook, it might be worth signing up just for their Ninja information.

I have the one and only slow cooker that I've ever liked, made by Crockpot.  It's about a year old.

 

It also has a little vent hole in the lid.  Doesn't seem to affect performance, and I don't feel a lot of heat escaping from that little hole.  

 

I think it  vents just enough to prevent the annoying steam bubbles that can build up around the rim of the lid, which can make the lid bounce and rattle once the pot gets very warm.
