Re: Need comfort food today.

I'm so sorry Adore, that I hadn't even noticed that you asked a question of me, farther up the thread!

We ended up getting some Chinese take-out that day, from our favorite Chinese restaurant.

They make a really great beef with snow peapods dish, and also a breaded fried chicken pieces dish with Chinese veggies. They both come with containers of white sticky rice, and fortune cookies. We order enough to have left-overs for a few days. Smile

As for one of my favorite comfort food dishes, I love macaroni and cheese. Yummy!

No worries sweetie!

Chinese is such a comfort food. We order at least once weekly and sometimes twice depending on what we crave.

We also order what you posted and it is comforting, filling and very delicious.

Can never go wrong with Chinese food, as a matter of fact I think the best Chinese food in the States I ever had was in San Francisco's Chinatown. Unbelievably gorgeous presentations which are very detailed with such skill and pride, and flavors out of this world.

Yes NY also has a very good Chinatown and its food is also delicious, but nothing like Chinatown in San Francisco which on a level of 1 to 10 it is spectacular and is a 10.

Many thanks for coming back and replying, but if you forgot no worries because I know we will always interact whenever we wish sweet northernlights!

P.S. I do not know if you are aware of this dear friend, but please read it as it contains information one must know especially when preparing food in the house as well as storing take out and other foods.

Food poisoning can kill so please do read and follow the guidelines to remain totally safe.

Be careful because left over rice not handled and stored properly can create deadly painful food positioning also known as the stomach flu, stomach virus, and stomach bug.??Raw rice naturally contains a bacteria called Bacillus Cereus.

In large amounts this bacteria can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Bacillus Cereus spores survive the cooking process and are not killed off when rice is reheated.

The safety of rice is dependent on how you handle the rice once cooked.

The temperature range of 4°C – 60°C is considered the danger zone for food. These temperatures are the perfect environment for most bacteria, when they are able to grow and multiply at a rapid rate. And the same is true for rice. ?

The longer rice is within this temperature range therefore, the more likely Bacillus Cereus spores are to grow and multiply. And the more chance you have of getting food poisoning from eating it.

It is not the reheating of rice which is potentially a problem, but how it’s been stored prior to reheating.

If you’ve cooked too much rice you must cool it down rather quickly and not leave it out at all if you are not planning to sit and eat it all right away.

Put the leftovers in side of your refrigerator immediately, and do not store towards the front of the fridge. Store in the back where it is colder, and store in an airtight storage container.

Keep rice salads in the fridge, right up until they’re needed and serve them cold.

#########################################################

Be careful of leftover takeaway rice: by the time it’s been cooked, kept warm in a rice cooker, delivered to you, eaten, stored – there’s plenty of opportunity for Bacillus Cereus to multiply.

I’d throw the leftovers out once you’ve finished the take away. Keep leftover rice for no longer than one day before re-using.

And remember bacteria are present in many of the foods we eat. This is natural. Cooking and correct food handling will either kill-off these bacteria, or at the very least prevent the population from over-growth.
########################################################

Stay safe Northernlights, Happy safe cooking, eating and storing safely, and Happy Sunday my friend{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}.

Dear keeper of the koi,

I am delighted you made and enjoyed my stuffed meatloaf recipe with your family, but I hope the food you purchased to make the meatloaf was fresh and safely handled, cooked thoroughly and then stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator to avoid food poisoning or similar issues like stomach flu.....please do advise!

I am so sad to read your hubby is diabetic and ill.

I really would feel so much better if you called your physician and explained what you typed to me, because it sounds as though he may need to be medically checked. If he cannot keep food down if it is a stomach flu, it could also be food poisoning since the symptoms are very similar.

I know diabetics need insulin and must take their diabetes blood sugar readings throughout the day to keep their readings in the normal range, but If your Doctor is not reachable call any emergency room near oyu and ask for the head nurse on duty and they will advise you what is best so you can begin to help him before oyu contact your Physician and take him in for an office visit.

P.S. Pedialyte helps diabetics and others to avoid dehydration, small sips throughout the day at first, but I feel since I am not a medical expert I should not give any other recommendation over the net to you.

Taking care of my beloved multiply disabled diabetic &cardiac patient Mom was one thing, since I knew her medical conditions and always spoke with her various medical specialists 24/7, but I would prefer not to do that when it comes to someone else.

P.S. I will offer this information which is a general stigmatization since it is from a medical web site for type II diabetics and information known for type II diabetes and illness issues, but still call your Medical Advisor or nearest Hospital Emergency Room head nurse and still ask, your questions....If they recommend to bring him in for professional medical evaluation, take him in. Best to be safe than not be sure....

In any event please do post back and advise what he ate before he became ill, and let me know what your Medical Advisor for him recommended, and how he is feeling now I hope he gets well with the proper medical care very soon.

Please also know I will include him in my daily healing prayers for a fast full recovery.

Re: Need comfort food today.

Thanks Adore, for letting me know about storing left-over rice. Yikes, I had no idea about that, regarding food poisoning. Thank you so much. You are such a dear for letting me know about it. Thanks again, dear friend! {#emotions_dlg.wub} ((Hugs to you!))

I bet that Chinese food from the different Chinatowns is so very good. Those are places that I would love to visit-both the Chinatowns in CA, and the one in NY. I would love to visit the different shops and restarants, too.
