I agree with @sunshine45. Discovered it on QVC and never looked back. I don't find it nearly as salty as the big name boullion. They also have low sodium versions of chicken, beef and vegetable.
At this point I don't actually measure it. I just add some till I'm happy with the taste.

I wish my 'big bix store' carried the lower-sodium verison of BTB. I too love Penzey's spices but in looking at their nutrition label online, Penzey's version does not look that much lower in salt and looks twice as expensive as I can get BTB. Maybe one of these days when I remember it, I will add it to my Penzey's order.
I have discovered thanks to a friend, Sam's Bone Broth...They have (at least in my box store) Chicken, lower sodium Chicken, Beef and Vegetable (they might also have lower sodium beef and veg, I just always seem to get the beef or chicken). It comes in one of those quart-containers, so no measuring or anything is needed. Depends on the soup I am making, I might use BTB, but I quite like this bone broth now that I've 'discovered' it, thanks to my foodie friend. The only problem is, my box store seems to not keep the bone broth stocked. Either it sells a lot or they just do not re-order it enough. But that is a nice option, too, epsecially if you do not like measuring. Although again, when I use BTB, I do not measure, I just add smidge by smidge, 'to taste'.
But yeah, those little cubes...not a fan of them. They will do in a pinch if the store is out of my other options, but definitely not my first choice. They are the saltiest by far, and they also have an odd taste for me, and the lower sodium version defintiely has an even more odd taste... *shrug*
I can't believe I've just gone on about soup base. Can you tell I love soup..?

Not if you buy the low sodium version. That's all I buy and the taste is soooo much better! You actually taste the flavor not the sodium. I rarely follow directions so I would just wing it and add according to taste.
