I too eat what I like or want. If I want a chimichanga, taco, cheeseburger I shall have it. I never eat the entire serving given to me at a restaurant. I always eat half and eat the rest the next day. I eat what I want in moderation. I'm not going to spend my time reading labels looking for the bad things because almost everything you eat has something bad in it unless one lives on nuts and twigs and I suppose those are bad for you too. What's bad today is suddenly good tomorrow.

Over the past several years, here's just one of many aspects of many thoughts that pop into in my head from time to time...especially when I'm grocery shopping or watching the tv and seeing all the ads.
You all know the 'health aisle' in the grocery store?
It literally is such a joke...seriously. Consider reading the labels...most have all the bad seed oils and one form or more of sugars, etc.
AND...O-M-G! They are adding fiber to everything including beverages and calling it healthy. No wonder why so many folks are developing IBS issues...oy.
Side Note: I haven't ingested a single grain of fiber in years and have 0 IBS issues...they are all gone.
Continuing...
So, what is the rest of the 'food' in all the other aisles...LOL...funny, but not funny.
Then add on the bit that what is actually in the 'health aisle' is also ultra processed foods. Big Food really has everyone bamboozled. There is no other way to put it.
It is the sheer madness of it all that is mind-boggling...
Don't forget to add on the bit that all of it is intentionally engineered by hired scientists to be hyper palitable to keep everyone addicted.
With all that said, does anyone REALLY believe that Big Food is doing their best to help keep you 'healthy'?
I think not...
DH & I thankfully took off our horse blinders & rose-colored glasses.
To me, the whole food industry is just so pathetically sad...good grief.
And here's an added BIG picture...
Imagine all the foods Big Food products that are manufactured with fiber with more products added all the time. Their profits/$ they are making continues to increase.
Now think of all the OTC meds that are produced by Big Pharma to curb the symptoms of IBS and other digestive issues like heartburn. I'm seeing new ads on tv constantly for them.
Bottom line (unspoken/hidden) from you by Big Food/Big Pharma:
Eat all the Big Food fiber rich foods and then take all the Big Pharma OTC meds to keep their profits/$ flowing in too.
Obviously, what works for you doesn't work for everyone else.
We all have allergies, sensitivities and reactions that don't affect others.
I don't consider myself (or family members) to be "brainwashed". I read a lot of labels.
If you think avoiding fiber has somehow made you more healthy, great. Keep in mind that Soluble fiber and Insoluble fiber affect us all differently.
What I don't understand here .... since you feel well-versed on this subject, please name the foods and food products that you believe to be ADDICTIVE.

@Tinkrbl44 Simply put, the list I can type you is extremely long. Cereals, all snacks, ice cream are just a few examples...a drop in the bucket. I'm surprised you are asking. I've read countless posts on the forums of folks who have a hard time only eating a single bowl of cereal, cookie, candy, serving of ice cream, etc.
I used to find it to be funny too and laugh about it BEFORE our lifestyle change. Folks keep forgetting, I ate like everyone else for most of my life...then I woke up to the insanity of it all. I'm not an alien...LOL...I'm just not living in the same camp anymore...so to speak.
I for one am an admitted sugar/carb addict. It is through the lifestyle DH & I live now that FINALLY got that monkey of 'food noise' off my back.
Most folks don't believe they are a sugar/carb addict til they actually try and stop eating sugars/carbs. I know I didn't believe I was a sugar/carb addict til I tried to stop eating them.
There are also many folks on the forums that don't even know what a 'carb' is and that even though they are not sugar (like rice/potatoes/even grains & fruits/veggies) they ALL turn to sugar in the body, raise blood sugar levels when digested.
It lights up the same part of the brain as illegal drugs. This info is available if one does their own researching. From personal experience, it was far less painful for me to quit smoking that it was for me to stop ingesting sugars/carbs.
I've mentioned many times that it took me a total of about 6-8 months to wean off of coffee creamers and finally step down to heavy whipping cream and then to FINALLY black coffee. I was ADDICTED to the coffee creamers after using for about 45 yrs!

Most likely everyone with disordered eating thinks its the best and only way.
When a person previously had an unhealthy relationship with food that caused health issues as has been related earlier on this board along with pictures of supplies of unhealthy food then becomes a super food restricter with constant postings about their diet you know they just exchanged their previous disordered style for a new one.

Being of Italian heritage, my cooking probably reflects more of a Mediterranean style diet. I cook quite a bit and generally avoid processed foods. I'm of the mind that one should eat balanced meals containing protein, some carbs (not a lot) vegetables and fruits. That said, occasionally, if I feel like having something that's not, for lack of better words, 'healthy', I'll have it! All in moderation...
While diets like the Keto diet short term is a fast way to lose weight, it's been proven that long term Keto (carnevoire) diets have been associated with some serious health risks due to animal fats that generates more acid in the blood causing increased kidney issues, including kidney stones, kidney tumors, urinary tract problems etc. Also increased animal fats in meats are associated with heart issues, heart disease, increased LDL cholestrol, and liver issues.
Everything in moderation. One should never feel deprived.

Uh ... okay.
How our individual bodies react to any given food or substance doesn't mean those products are deliberately manufactured with "addictive" substances.
It also depends on what we each consider a serving.
Personally, I don't think one cookie is a serving. I always have TWO cookies, but really have no compulsion to eat the whole package.
I can also eat only one or two potato chips.
I have allergies to shellfish and penicillin. Both my sisters do not have those allergies.
We can't blame food manufacturers for our individual sensitivities. That's ridiculous.
JMO, of course.

Wow. Well, I learned something new today.
In my entire life, I've never heard of ANYONE claiming to be addicted to coffee creamers.

@Susan Louise With all due respect, I think you should speak only for yourself. I don't consider myself 'brainwashed', and I'm very healthy.

@Tinkrbl44 I'm sure many on the forums can recall me mentioning this several times (to ad nauseam for some). I'm surprised you missed ALL of my posting about it in many threads over the past several years.
For those that use coffee creamers, I wonder how many actually read the ingredient labels. I know I never bothered until the day DH was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in 2018. That was the day we cleared out our pantry/freezer & fridge. I had to keep a couple types of products because I had to wean myself from them. I was unable to go cold turkey.
Oatmeal was the other one for me. I used to love having a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast a few times a week with walnuts, craisins and brown sugar (toward the end I was using brown sugar Truvia - but still gave me the HUGE blood sugar spike!). That bowl of oatmeal was NOTHING but sugar...
Oatmeal = sugar
Crasins = sugar
Walnuts = sugar
Sugar or Truvia = sugar
It was a painful fact I had to face.
I haven't had either for several years now. I didn't think I could give them up...until I did.
It was not easy going from using coffee creamers to drinking black coffee. I had a LONG weaning process. On the other hand, I was able to stop smoking cold turkey and I smoked from the time I was 11 til I was 44.
To me, sugar/carb addiction is so much harder to get rid of compared to smoking.
I read all the time online, watch videos of literally countless folks who can't stop having their carbs/sugars.
It is nothing less than a huge accomplishment when anyone can stop their 'DOC' - 'drug of choice'. Certainly nothing to joke about.

I've always been careful about food and nutrition labels. I'm not "brainwashed" either. What a joke.
