My view/perspective of 'food' has changed so drastically...

[ Edited ]

over the past 7 years. It truely is the exact opposite of what DH & I (quite honestly all of us) have been brainwashed/programmed to believe.

Over the past several years, here's just one of many aspects of many thoughts that pop into in my head from time to time...especially when I'm grocery shopping or watching the tv and seeing all the ads.

You all know the 'health aisle' in the grocery store?

It literally is such a joke...seriously. Consider reading the labels...most have all the bad seed oils and one form or more of sugars, etc.

AND...O-M-G! They are adding fiber to everything including beverages and calling it healthy. No wonder why so many folks are developing IBS issues...oy.

Side Note: I haven't ingested a single grain of fiber in years and have 0 IBS issues...they are all gone.

Continuing...

So, what is the rest of the 'food' in all the other aisles...LOL...funny, but not funny.

Then add on the bit that what is actually in the 'health aisle' is also ultra processed foods. Big Food really has everyone bamboozled. There is no other way to put it.

It is the sheer madness of it all that is mind-boggling...

Don't forget to add on the bit that all of it is intentionally engineered by hired scientists to be hyper palitable to keep everyone addicted.

With all that said, does anyone REALLY believe that Big Food is doing their best to help keep you 'healthy'?

I think not...

DH & I thankfully took off our horse blinders & rose-colored glasses.

To me, the whole food industry is just so pathetically sad...good grief.

And here's an added BIG picture...

Imagine all the foods Big Food products that are manufactured with fiber/more fiber with more products added all the time. Their profits/$ they are making continues to increase.

Now think of all the OTC meds that are produced by Big Pharma to curb the symptoms of IBS and other digestive issues like heartburn. I'm seeing new ads on tv constantly for them.

Bottom line (unspoken/hidden from you) by Big Food/Big Pharma:

Eat all the Big Food fiber rich foods and then take all the Big Pharma OTC meds to keep their profits/$ flowing in too.

Our food and healthcare systems are so broken and corrupt because of the insatiable greed of those at the top for profit/$.

I buy very little processed foods anymore.  Most of the time I shop at my local farmer's market and try to stick with whole foods.  I have been making an effort to eat better and low carb. My blood test results that I got back yesterday reflected that.

A lot of us would not be at all interested in what others eat.  And what is a healthy diet will look very different 10 years from now I am willing to bet!

Eat what you want, eat what you feel is good for you.  Just knock what anyone else eats or belittle their food choices.  We all have our reasons for what we choose to eat.

I think by now most people know what food is healthy.  But healthy food can be expensive and takes time to prepare.

Processed food is easy to get on the table fast and has so much sugar, salt and colorings that we have become addicted to it.

I cook mainly from scratch.  Some things I buy already made, such as beef broth.  I used to always make my own, but a scraped down beef bone is $5 a lb with zero meat on it and it not worth my time or money to make my own.

But 98% of what's in my pantry, freezer and fridge is healthy food.  I have one kid who cooks like me.  The other two do take-out and processed food on the regular.

Who knows.......Maybe in twenty or more years, food will be pills.

I believe in 'plain' foods.

And the pyramid.  The older one.

But, I'm not a fanatic.  Or fussy.

Just the less butter sauces in dishes, the better (for me, my tummy).

I know many, many people who eat just about everything, are healthy-curvy, and have the best medical test results!

It all depends on our own body 'system', in my opinion and my obversations.

The best of everything to each of us.

I am trying to de-emphasize food in my life.  I eat very simply, seldom eat out, and cut down on portion sizes.  My main goal right now is to maintain a healthy weight.  I see so many women around my age (70's) who are too heavy and have so many related health problems.  I want to be able to stay active (swim, walk, lift weights) for many more years.

So very true about food today.  That's why they say it's healthiest to shop the perimeter of the store.  Assuming one eats meat and fish.....there is that wall......then the dairy and eggs wall and then there is the fresh produce wall.

But in the end, everyone has to make their own decisions.  🍽

@Susan Louise

Reading your many posts about your health journey has been admirable. 7 years is definitely a strong testimony.  Do you every falter or feel like you are missing food? What is the secret to the staying power?

I want to eat healthy foods, but bookstores are filled with books that say the exact opposite things of each other. I could give hundreds of examples, but here's just one. Tomatoes are great: No, tomatoes are from the nightshade family and should never be eaten.

Also, I find dining out enjoyable, but there's very few offerings that are good for you.

Sometimes I wish I could post my intake for a day, and have the OP tell me what, if anything, was actually healthy.

I'm 75, in good health and I eat what I like/want.  Not too interested in vegetables and fruits prefer bread, pasta, cookies, fish, some meats, nuts.  Have no interest in changing my diet at this point in life unless it were a life threatening issue and maybe not even then--LOL!!
