Re: My Favorite Tuna Salad

[ Edited ]

I really enjoy eating tuna salad - mine!  Here's how I make it:

Genoa Yellow Fin in OIL - not water. I WILL NOT buy and tuna in water, all it does is water it down. I do drain almost all of the oil as fish oil is good for us.

Diced celery, sometime I'll tear up lettuce and add it in.

Thinly sliced green onions

Duke's mayo (or Hellmann's, absolutely no whip, as there's no miracle in flavor with this stuff)

Then it's spices, many of them too - Mrs Dash Fiesta Lime, a little celery salt, Old Bay, pepper, sometimes Mrs Dash Spicy Jalepino, sometimes Mrs Dash Table Blend or Original Blend.

Mix altogether, add a little more Duke's if need be. Either eat on crackers or I'll make a toasted sandwich - it is ALL good.

I NEVER buy tuna salad out, it never tastes good and I have no idea what's in someone else's tuna salad. Same goes for chicken salad unless it's from my very fav gourmet market (Weiland's) because their chicken salad is always homemade and it's all REAL chunk chicken that they roast, celery a little green onion - to die for - almost!

I'm with you, no Miracle Whip. I think people either love Miracle Whip or hate it. I find it too sweet and never use it. I only use Hellman's Mayo.

Your recipe is almost totally different than mine but I really like the sound of it. May try it the next time I make tuna salad. I remember my school days. Mom made lots of tuna salad for sandwiches for our lunches - that an bologna. A real treat was when we had pot roast on Sunday and had sandwiches with pot roast on Monday to take to school.

I use albacore, and put pecans and apples in mine. It's become close to impossible to find the tuna I use, which is packed in EVOO. Growing up, we always had tuna packed in oil, and I still like that. I may have to purchase it online.

@Moonlady I buy all tuna from Amazon now.  Usually Ortiz, Amoro, and other brands from Mediterranean countries and packed in good olive oil.  It is so good. And it is more expensive, but to me worth at least as much as a fast food burger!  Woman Wink

I love good tuna and sardines!

@PINKdogWOOD I never buy salads like that out either. I just can't stand gobs and gobs of mayonnaise, or cheese, in things.

I love sardines as well.  My mother would sautee smelts for breakfast and they were so good.  I don't do that, but I'll eat sardines for breakfast when I get a craving for the smelts.

@Vernamahloo Beans are a cheap meal for us,  eggs, lots of other things.  But tuna is a once a week good for us real meal around here. It isn't a food I skimp on.  We enjoy it that much and it's an easy meal too.  Woman Very Happy
