I ordered these years ago and did not care for them but I know many people love them. I personally do not think it is worth the risk and I would certainly not give them as gifts. There was an article this morning in the Seattle Times warning about caramel apples.

From what I have read, they were apples purchased at stores that sounded like discount stores. I have eaten three Mrs. Prindible's since they arrived two weeks ago, have given 5 as gifts, no one has gotten sick. I think they are not premium apples, but the apples you find already made up at the grocery store.

But if you feel more comfortable not eating your Mrs. Prindibles, that is certainly your choice. And I am no expert, but can say no one has gotten ill of the apples I purchased.

Why on earth would anyone gift caramel apples when you are being told NOT to eat ANY of them????? I don't care who says Mrs. P's are perfectly safe---why would you even tempt fate????? Call up QVC CS and demand a refund and throw those things in the garbage!!!

Sheesh----a no-brainer to me!!!!

As far as I know, the tainted ingredient hasn't been identified, so how can Mrs P say all their ingredients are safe?

I'm thinking Mrs. P is not involved - or at least according to the message in my morning paper - It's apples from long-ago shipments from other sources that might be compromised. I'd avoid shipments from before Halloween, but those apples should be dead already anyway. Newer products should be fine.

It is so sad what something like this can do to a small company. QVC is big enough to handle it but this could put Mrs. Prindable's out of business especially at Holiday time and it is probably not even related to their product.

As much as I hated to throw away my Mrs. Prindable's apples I did. QVC gave me a refund and if by now I was 100% sure they were safe I would have kept them and paid for them. Not long ago I was been diagnosed with A-Fib and a mitral valve problem so I am trying to control that. I had already eaten a half of an apple and am fine-as far as I know- so I thought I better not chance it. The pink lady was so good it saddened me to throw away. They were mostly for gifts and I definitely would not have given them to others. I personally would order from Mrs. Prindable's in the future and feel bad for all that are not affected. Just my opinion.

I got one as a gift just yesterday - guess what? I'm eating it this afternoon (will share with work friends). I grew up in the '50's - my mom cut raw chicken on a wooden board made by my uncle, then made us sandwiches on the same board. We had no child seats in the car - no seatbelts either for that matter - and sometimes a bunch of us would go to the drive-in movie in the back of my cousin's station wagon - no seats at all. We lived . . . gonna eat my apple.

This isn't salmonella. Listeria is far worse. 20% mortality rate in Listeria, less than 1% in Salmonella.

I had eaten a huge caramel/chocolate/pecan apple from Savannah's Candy Kitchens before I even knew about this health threat! So I sure hope I will be OK! I ate half of it Saturday and the remainder yesterday, then I heard about this early this morning. Yikes!!
