While I agree that they're probably safe, I cannot in good conscience give these as a gift. I called my nephews whom I had boxes shipped to and informed them, and I also have 2 boxes I was going to use as individual gifts. Unfortunately they will all be trashed. So now I'm stuck without gifts for several people. Too bad because I tried them last week and they're good.

There’s no way these apples are affected, because if there was any doubt, whatsoever, they would be recalled by “Mrs. Prindables”. I am not concerned, and will happily enjoy and share mine with family and friends.

I gave 14 already to co workers and I've had 2 myself!!! No one sick!!!! Theyre freshly done prior to shipping...so. all my coworkers have eaten them too..... she's east coast, bad apples from minnesta grocery stores. Hope this helps

I think this is a case of the government over-reacting. They say that raw apples are fine for eating and other caramel products are fine for eating, just don't eat caramel apples. So if the listeria doesn't come from the apples or the caramel, where is it coming from??? These kind of warnings from the government can bankrupt a small business when they're issued overly broadly. Blanket statements not to eat any one kind of food across the board are just way, way too broad and damaging for companies. Mrs. Prindables is going to lose a lot of money for doing nothing wrong. I know the official government view is that it's better to hurt a few businesses than let people get sick, but they go a little over the top sometimes and this is one of those times.

Many/most independent candy shops (those that still exist anyway) make caramel coated apples in their own stores. If it's not the apples or the caramel then there should be no risk in eating a caramel coated apple from any of those small candy stores. By imposing an outright ban on them the government is making a lot of small businesses take a loss as apples don't just stay fresh forever. Those apples already dipped are now worthless and those awaiting dipping will likely be past their prime by the time the government loosens the restrictions.

QVC is saying that Mrs Prindables is not involved , Mrs Prindables is saying they are not involved , the CDC is saying do not eat any caramel apples until they get to the source. I got my delivery yesterday and I cannot for the life of me serve these to my guests without telling them and I am sure if I tell them they will pass on them to be safe , and I want to be assured they will be safe.. The CDC is saying it can take up to 70 days before symptoms appear.. I would worry for the next 70 days if I served them .. so to the trash they shall go.. I am so disappointed I was so looking forward to having them .. better safe than sorry.. ( I do feel badly for Mrs Prindables but just cant do it )

If you gift the apples, in the interest of full disclosure, give the recipient both the CDC statement and the QVC / Prindable's statement. Then they can decide for themselves whether to consume. Also ask them to sign a waiver of liability.

I also received my order of Mrs. Prindable's which I intended to give as gifts. My husband and I tried one the day they arrived just to see if they were ok as far as taste, etc. We had not heard about the listeria problem.

I'm glad to hear that Mrs. Prindable's is not included. I'll attach a note to the apples stating that the company has stated their products are ok.

Since dh and I have already eaten one and are not having any issues, I wonder how long it takes for listeria to show up. Is it like food poisoning and the symptoms occur within hours of eating the tainted food?

I've read here it can take up to 70 days for symptoms to appear.

I still wouldn't gift them. What kind of gift should come with a warning label? I'm annoyed that Mrs. Prindable's hasn't updated their statement since yesterday morning.

Just because they are not on "the list" doesn't mean they're not affected. I agree that these are more than likely safe, but why risk it?!?! The CDC says don't! I know that some of you have said that's government overreaction, but this is deadly serious and they can't take this lightly. People have already died. OVER APPLES!
