No to green bean casserole, sweet potatoes and absolutely NO to any kind of cranberry side. Just give me regular mashed potatoes and stuffing with gravy and then more gravy.

🤮 It's green b/c he ate the green bean casserole.

Re: Most Hated Thanksgiving side dishes

I don't like green bean casserole.  I like green beans southern style--cooked to death, flavored with bacon.  Some white potatoes thrown in too.

I like a baked sweet potato with butter, salt & pepper. The sweet marshmallow thing is overkill.  Love cranberry sauce flavored with orange rind.  So good I use leftovers on toast at breakfast. Love all the rest -- turkey, stuffing, gravy.

My DIL  hosts Thanksgiving every year.  Her family is from the Dominican Republic and they make a pastelon (lasagna like with platantains , meat and mozzarella)and a potato salad with beets and eggs-- all yummy.

We don't like the green been casserole here either. I love the stuffing with celery, onions and sausage. As far as the actual Thanksgiving dinner, I will eat it but I prefer a cold turkey sandwich the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm stunned that folks don't like sweet potatoes! Really stunned! I don't eat them now because I now eat low-carb., but I do think they are amazingly delicious.....even better with baked marshmallows on top. I would never have guessed in a million years that sweet potatoes would be on anyone's list of most disliked foods..... this forum is educational. Haha

@Goldengate8361   I love sweet potatoes too, I like to cook all types of dishes with them, but no way to the marshmallows. I am not a fan.

I just read that 27% of people polled said they hated candied sweet potatoes, 25% hated green bean casserole and 24% hated cranberry sauce.

I wonder who still serves these items.  Do you eat them?

At our house we love the candied sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce, but yuk to green bean casserole.

@Carmie

I read an article that said 58% of people hate the green bean casserole.

We have green and yellow wax beans all the time, so it's hardly a treat.  We'll pass on that one.

What I never understood was the need to put MARSHMALLOWS on potatoes.  How about maple syrup and pecans?

I really don't like sweet potato casserole, much too sweet for me.  But, I do like baked sweet potatoes with butter only.  Not a fan of that "fluff" stuff, I think it's jello with fruits and marshmallow fluff???????  There is a shoepeg corn and french green beans in a casserole that I like so much better than the traditional green bean casserole.  Another dish is anything with pumpkin in it.

Re: Most Hated Thanksgiving side dishes

Growing up we never had a sweet potato dish or cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. I can eat a tiny amount of either one but prefer not to. I don't mind green bean casserole as long as it's made with another cream soup besides mushroom. The thing that I can't stand is dinner rolls. They're edible but IMHO, they're a waste of calories, carbs and room in my tummy for much tastier things. I've never been much of a bread eater.

Re: Most Hated Thanksgiving side dishes

Even as a kid, I never liked sweet potatoes with marshmallows.

I love cranberries in any form, fresh, canned, frozen and popped into a festive drink.

A definite no to green bean casserole.

I love and miss mom's cornbread dressing with sausage-Jimmy Dean's.I can make it like she did, but I'm now by myself and don't know how to make a smaller version of her's.

Years ago I started making Bread Pudding with lots of of Jimmy Walkers Whiskey.

My mom and sister loved it.

Always on the table was sliced blood oranges with sliced fennel.

No marshmallows on my sweet potatoes, only a cooked sauce of brown sugar, butter, and water.
