Re: Most Hated Thanksgiving side dishes

No to green bean casserole, creamed pearl onions and candied sweet potatoes.  Yes to bread stuffing but only if it is sausage stuffing.  No to oyster stuffing.  Mashed potatoes I can take or leave.

I like a baked sweet potato with butter and salt/pepper.  Or  cubed and sautĂ©ed with onions and garlic (great with pork chops).

Growing up, we always had the canned jellied cranberry sauce that you cut in slices.  Nowadays, I make a savory cranberry sauce from fresh cranberries that I much prefer.

My late husband's family always passed around a plate with gherkins, celery sticks and olives after the main course and before coffee and dessert.  My family never did this and I thought it was a weird custom, lol.

@Carmie .  My daughter does not like Green bean casserole.  None of them eat Cranberry sauce .  And I do not like Sweet Potato. So for Thanksgiving , I make mashed potatoes and broccoli with Velveeta cheese .  And I slice the cranberry sauce for me.

Re: Most Hated Thanksgiving side dishes

@Fribwl   We never have any type of green beans on Thanksgiving.  My kids and grands want corn, plain old corn with butter.  They swirl it into the mashed potatoes and gravy.  I make broccoli too.

I used to occasionally make sweet potato casserole with a crunchy pecan topping, but I have orders from the grandkids to make candied sweet potatoes.

They also like the canned cranberry sauce, though I like the homemade stuff with whole crushed berries.

Another request is for homemade spaghetti and meatballs...yes, I am Italian.  We usually have Italian dishes in addition to American food.

I cook to please my family.  They have a list of desserts too.  Some they will have to wait until Christmas.  I just don't have the time, nor do I feel like making things now.

Today my two granddaughters requested to are come over over for dinner bringing along their boyfriends, so I made three 11x14 casserole dishes of cottage pie.

After Thanksgiving, I will be home alone for 10 days.  I think I'll have a break from cooking.  Yeah!

Green bean casserole.

I'd never even heard of it.  As a kid we did the Thanksgiving crawl to visit friends and extended family, and there was never a green bean casserole on any menu.

All these decades later I still have never tasted it.  It doesn't seem like something I'd enjoy.

Mashed potatoes -- I do like them a lot.  But our Thanksgiving must have sweet potatoes, so we don't do both.  Sweet potatoes always win.

Stuffing.  Never cared for it.  I made some for SO, enough for a few meals. My sister likes to make a Thanksgiving sandwich after the holiday.  Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, a little gravy.  đ꤮

I am making turkey rice soup today.

I like most sides except for sweet potatoes, never acquired a taste for them.
