Hello all!

Is anyone using monk fruit as a sweetener for baking? I'm trying to get my family to eat less sugar.

Thanks!

Re: Monk fruit as a sweetener?

@chris_mf---I have a bag of it right now---it is not as sweet as reg sugar altho they say it can be used  1 to 1 ratio. No aftertaste; 4 g of carbs per 1 tsp; 4 g sugar alcohol--- I haven't tried it in baking. You might just get a bag and try it in your tea or coffee first--- bought this at AMZ. I have seen it sold in the grocery stores too. If I bake with anything new like this, I tend to just do 1/2 recipe-----that way you don't waste as much if you don't like it.

Re: Monk fruit as a sweetener?

I bought a bag at Costco and I've been using it in coffee and when making fruit salad.  I haven't baked with it, but I did sample some of the vendor's baked goods while at Costco and they tasted the same as using regular sugar.  I don't think it's quite as sweet as sugar, so the 1:1 ratio isn't enough for my coffee, but in baking it's probably ok because I don't like real sweet baked goods.  I usually cut back the sugar when baking anyway.

It’s a great option, especially if you are trying to eat less carbs.  You can use it in your baking but also as a table sugar replacement.  If you are a member, Costco has the best price.

For baking we mainly use Stevia/Truvia or Swerve.
