My recipe calls for 1 cup of cheddar cheese, grated.
So, do I grate the cheese and then measure it out?
If I start with grated cheese, do I pack the measuring cup (like brown sugar) or do I just gently pat it into the measuring cup?
Or can I assume that 1 cup of cheese would equal 8 ounces cut off the block - then grate that 8 ounce chunk?
Or.....how do other folks measure "grated" cheese?
Note: I rarely measure cheese. And I usually buy it already grated from Costco and just grab what I think I might need. This time I have a block of cheddar that needs to be used, and I have a recipe that probably needs to have a more careful measurement of cheese since flour and butter are part of it.
