Nothing better than a hot biscuit and butter!!!!!

I had one this morning [did not know it was natural biscuit day]. Mine was topped with jelly and cream cheese.

Biscuits like Cracker Barrel

2 cups White Lily Self-rising Flour

1/3 c shortening

2/3 c buttermilk

melted butter

Cut the shortening into the flour, then add in the buttermilk. Mix until combined, don't overmix. Roll out on a lightly floured counter and cut straight down. Don't twist the cutter, as it seals the edges of the biscuit. Bake at 450* for 8-10 minutes. Brush with melted butter when they come out of the oven.

Butter of course, jelly, jam, melted cheese on top, white sausage gravy, brown gravy with chicken fried steak, sorghum molasses, bacon, country ham and red eye gravy, fried chicken strips, roast beef, chocolate gravy....... Love homemade buttermilk biscuits !!! They go with everything!!!

I'm not a huge biscuit fan, but you know what's good? Get a tube of those refrigerator buttermilk biscuits, flatted it out a bit, cut a hole in the center, and fry it up...then roll in a cinnamon-sugar mixture for some quickie (and very tasty) donuts!

These are a staple I make every week. Throw leftovers in the freezer.

I like mine with jam. I buy locally made jams and jellies from a local orchard at harvest time and store them in my pantry to enjoy over the cold winter months.

They make a great tart double berry jam that's delish! Yummy on a warm biscuit with coffee.
