Marble counters for my kitchen?

Don't think so but I could change my mind.

Saw an article online yesterday about marble kitchen counter tops "trending" in 2017. I am 100% uninterested in "trends" but I do love the look of marble- just not too sure about in my kitchen.

Do you have it? Do you like it?

Re: Marble counters for my kitchen?

We just built our cottage 3 years ago where we live now. In a heartbeat I would go with marble in my kitchen now!! Love the look. Classic and will look lovely forever.

My bathrooms have marble counters - they are pretty but don't think they are heavy duty enough for a kitchen and all the wear and tear that goes on.

Marble is very porous and stains more easily.  I have it in bathroom and got a small stain... tried everything and can't get it out- I would not use it again personally and never in kitchen.

I have marble in my bathroom.  Don't recommend it for kitchen because it is porous.  If you love the look of marble try to go with a granite or quartz that has the same striations as marble. There are a lot out there. Don't settle, you will have to live with it for a long time.

marble stains too easily to be in a kitchen, there are many man made products imitating it.

we are looking at kitchens now

but it looks great

I have quartz in my kitchen. It is completely care free. I highly suggest you consider using that!

I like them but would not want them just for the fact that they stain. I don't want to have to reseal them as needed. I prefer Quartz.

My Nephew had a marlble counter top in a powder room... A blue box of

Kleenex got damp underneath and stained the counter and it never came

out....

Re: Marble counters for my kitchen?

I am going through the process of renovating our ensuite bath.  I was positive I wanted Carrera marble but changed my mind after speaking with the stone company owner.

He said he would use the quartz look alike.

He based his opinion upon the care marble needs plus the fact manufactured quartz countertops recycle all the stone waste from the industry.

Marble should be resealed (best every 6 months)..

In addition, he said any acid (think lemon., tomatoes...) that comes into contact with the marble with "etch" the surface, if left to sit on the surface.  Think about splatters you may not immediatly catch.  Staining does occur.  However, as it is a porous product, the stain wil  continue to leach toward the surface and eventually, become less and less noticeable.  They also can try to professional clean up stains, but can do nothing for etching.

He showed me the new quartz products made to mimic the look of marble without the problems.  I was blown away by how real they look!  They are beautiful and they are almost carefree, no staining, no sealing and no etching.

The two issues I faced with the quartz marble products were:

1)  if you want a white, white marble look...it isn't available.

2) If a company makes a quartz marble look alike, every single sheet they manufacture will have the exact same pattern!  I thought someone, in 20 years,  might identify my countertops with ...2017 Cesarstone Quartz...

However, I made the decision to go with the quartz in a pattern from Cesarstone called Calacutta Nuvo.

Good luck!
