We got ours at Walmart. The handle has extra padding. We use it once and it goes to the dishwasher.

I quit my electric opener when I got a Kuhn Ricon. I am a senior citizen and have no problem using it. It stays clean when you open pet food or any food for that matter. Everyone who sees me use it wants one. My granddaughter and I both give them as gifts. I first gifted her with one and she loves it!

I'm looking forward to getting mine. I may give up my electric can opener, too. It's really hard to clean.

No need to read the directions. As an aside I do not like to store anything including pet food in an opened can. Once the air hits the lining of the can I am concerned about how the food is effected, so I remove it and place it in a glass lock container. On 2/6/2015 candy kisses said:I quit my electric opener when I got a Kuhn Ricon. I got tired of my electronic can opener I had various issues because sometimes the holding device didn't hold some of the cans, sharp jagged lids after it cut, sometimes I had to run a can a couple times before it would cut etc etc. Then I bought the Kuhn Rikon bunny can opener (it is no longer available on QVC)...it has a rachet style motion and a metal beak to remove the lid. It is easy to use, less stress on your hands, and no metal shavings to worry about or sharp lids to cut yourself on. And I can put this in a drawer since it's small which gives me some small but appreciated extra counter space....

I got a Kitchen Aid manual can opener at Home Goods and love it. It wasn't at all costly and requires next to no strength to turn. Opens all cans very easily without mess and without sharp edges... Wish I'd bought an extra... If I ever see another, I'm going to buy it to put away for use down the road.

The thought of an electric can opener and the other hand held one grosses me out. Literally. I would not be without my Kuhn Rikon!!!

My Kuhn Rikon can opener arrived today. Boy, is it easy to use! I love it. I think I'll use it instead my electric can opener from now on. I've only opened one can, but I did have trouble figuring out when it was finished. Next time I'll have to notice where I started on the can until I get used to learning how it feels when it's through. I love the way you pick up the lid and don't really have to touch it. Thanks everyone who recommended it!

Quickly you'll 'feel' when it gets to the end. Does this one have a 'beak' thing to grasp the lid? It might be there and you haven't noticed it yet. My old Kuhn Rikon as that. You operate it with the same handles as when you are opening a can - handles open, beak opens, handles close, beak closes on lid and you just pluck it off of there. On mine they are just these very small stainless steel things that you can see easily when you have the handles closed together.
(hope that mish-mash of an explanation made sense!)
