My Kuhn Rikon can opener arrived today. Boy, is it easy to use! I love it. I think I'll use it instead my electric can opener from now on. I've only opened one can, but I did have trouble figuring out when it was finished. Next time I'll have to notice where I started on the can until I get used to learning how it feels when it's through. I love the way you pick up the lid and don't really have to touch it. Thanks everyone who recommended it!

Quickly you'll 'feel' when it gets to the end. Does this one have a 'beak' thing to grasp the lid? It might be there and you haven't noticed it yet. My old Kuhn Rikon as that. You operate it with the same handles as when you are opening a can - handles open, beak opens, handles close, beak closes on lid and you just pluck it off of there. On mine they are just these very small stainless steel things that you can see easily when you have the handles closed together.

(hope that mish-mash of an explanation made sense!)

Yes, it has the thing to grasp the lid. I love that. I didn't understand the written instructions, so I watched the QVC video. He showed how to grasp the lid with the beak thing. The video was so easy to understand. I bought my can opener from Amazon, though, and it doesn't have all of the other openers on it.

Oh good! Smiley Happy I thought you were just grabbing the lid with your hand and pulling it off. It's a lot easier with the beak, eh? Smiley Happy

Mine is also just one thing - a can opener. But, like I said earlier on in the thread, I've had it for around 10 years and it will outlast me. Of course, since I live by Murphy's Law, that's probably because I purchased a spare. Had I not purchased another one, it would probably have died on me and become obsolete. ha!

But seriously, KR makes really good products that last forever and do what they're supposed to do. Back when I got my can opener they only came in white but I still love it. Smiley Happy

This is mine but I don't see these anymore.

Chickenbutt, that's really good to know that it lasts so long.

I have a cheap one. It works fine. It's now our primary can opener. We had electric ones in the past, but they were never very good. Never seemed to last. We got this one to use while we tried to find a better electric one. It ended up being the only one. We've had it three years.

We have the exact same KR manual can opener that chickenbutt us It has served us well over all of these years. Found out fast how much we love it after being at our daughter's house and trying to use their old electric can opener. I believe they will appreciate a KR manual can opener we plan on getting them as a small bonus house gift next Christmas.
