Making ham and bean soup on a cold winter night...

Yummy. With some of my left-over Christmas ham I am going to make some soup. I remember that my mom would make something she called "rubles" and put them in the soup. They were some sort of little bite-size dough droppings, but I don't have any idea how she made them. She is no longer here to ask, so I wonder if anyone has ever heard of rubles, and might know how to make them. It seems that they are probably dropped into the soup when it's almost ready to serve.

Thanks to anyone in advance. Sometimes I just really miss my mom...
